Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
This collection of erotic verse emphasizes English poetry of the last 400 years, although poems translated from French, Chinese, Sanskrit, and Arabic are also included. The primarily little-known poems range from lewd to tender to sensuous. The works of anonymous and lesser-known poets are, however, interspersed with verse from Keats, Donne, Byron, Yeats, and others. Although the bulk of the verses speak of heterosexual love, the second side of the last cassette features some that are homosexual in nature. The five male and female readers are British and range from good to excellent in quality. Yet these works are difficult to listen to and comprehend, partly because many of the poems were written in the less familiar English of centuries past. The major problem in understanding, however, is because the subject of these poems--erotic love--could not be expressed openly but had to be couched in metaphor or simile. Not recommended.--Leah Sparks, Bowie P.L., MD Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.\
