Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
"Will love conquer all?" is the theme of this story of Nancy Clancy and her best friend, Bree. After studying the human heart in science class, they decide to become matchmakers. They try to find out what makes people fall in love. But in their quest they discover it is hard to determine the answer. When they try to match up their two favorite high schoolers, they discover matchmaking it not all that easy. The thirteen chapters listed on the contents page define their endeavors from "Beating Hearts" in chapter 1 to "Teenagers in Love" in chapter 13. The book continues with the topics of families and friendship, which are also explored in other "Fancy Nancy" books. These are important concepts for young readers. Black-and-white drawings and familiar characters make it an easy reading text even though matchmaking may be a bit mature for the younger ages of the targeted audience. The book is part of the extensive collection of novels in the "Nancy Clancy Series." Reviewer: Annie Laura Smith
Kirkus Reviews
When there are no mysteries to solve, Nancy and best friend Bree turn their sleuthing skills to the business of love. It's nearly Valentine's Day, and young girls' hearts turn to love. The little girls play matchmaker after Nancy's guitar teacher, Andy, and best baby sitter in the universe Annie each break up with their respective love interests. Who could be better matched than their two favorite high schoolers? What with Nancy's trademark grown-up words, interesting facts about hearts from their teacher, Mr. Dudeny, and Annie's fondness for French vocabulary, this love story has a little more substance than most chapter books for new readers. Readers will enjoy seeing Bree and Nancy set Annie and Andy up for their "surprise" date and will secretly be relieved when Annie figures things out for herself. Platonic love might not be as exciting to the young girls as romantic love, but it is nice (and more realistic) to see old friends like Annie and Andy enjoy each other's company as friends. Gentle, black-and-white line drawings combine with easy-to-read font and familiar characters to make this the logical series for fans of Fancy Nancy to fall in love with. Ooh la la! What will these two friends think of next? (Fiction. 5-8)

Nancy Clancy returns in an all new chapter book, and love is in

Nancy Clancy returns in an all new chapter book, and love is in the air! Nancy and her best friend, Bree, are learning about the human heart in science class, and they start wondering, what makes people fall in love? When Nancy's guitar teacher, Andy, and their favourite babysitter, Annie, break up with the people they had been dating, both Nancy and Bree decide to take on the role of matchmaker. But they soon discover that making them fall in love, even on Valentine's Day, isn't quite as easy as they thought it would be.

Jane O'Connor's latest Nancy book is sure to please girls who have grown up on Fancy Nancy picture books and are ready to move on to chapter books that deal with issues more appropriate for older girls. I must admit that my oldest daughter is still very naive, and that although she's 8, she didn't quite relate to Nancy's quest to make 2 teenagers fall in love. However, I also know that she's not typical for her age and that many girls in that age group are very focused on thoughts of love and what it means to date and find your  perfect match. Like other books starring Nancy Clancy, the book is well-written and easy to read, featuring Robin's splendid and lively pictures that make Fancy Nancy a truly wonderful character. I love that these books continue to highlight themes of friendship and families who stick close together, making Nancy a character worth returning to.

If you are looking for a fun book to give your daughter, aged 6-10, just in time for Valentine's Day this year, then consider Nancy Clancy, Secret Admirer. I give it a solid recommendation of 4 out of 5 stars.

This story is really cute. It reminded me of Scones and Sensibil

This story is really cute. It reminded me of Scones and Sensibility, but intended for a slightly younger audience. The illustrations are a nice addition to the story and give children a good visual aid to the words.

This book will appeal to young girls just starting to explore the world of romance.
