Overview

By 2088, genetic engineering and nanotechnology have merged to create a near Elysian existence. Mankind is on the brink of immortality – disease, famine and pollution have been eradicated using this new technology – with seemingly magical results.

Behind this perfect mask, however, lurks a hidden threat – revealed by puzzling, apparently random tragedies. Chicago Police Inspector Robert Nazio and the brilliant Greg Gilroy, an anarchist and master hacker, find themselves thrown together at the center of an international crisis filled with twists, turns and technology gone awry.

Assembling a super team of intelligence experts, the investigation quickly evolves into a race to save the Earth from a diabolical threat that seems to be everywhere at once – infiltrating governments, corporations and research laboratories seemingly at will. Nazio and Gilroy’s only hope seems to lie in two Renaissance Festival throwbacks - illusionists who have magic of their own.

With paradise collapsing, who will win the battle - technology or magic?

A Great Science Fiction Techno Thriller

I loved this book. It has the futuristic, sci/fi stuff I mostly read, a great detective story with the mystery that comes with those, enough horror to give me a night or two bad dreams, and the well developed characters you need in any good book. And to top it off it had a touch of magic and a love story too. Without giving anything away, at the beginning of the story I was excited about the possibility that some of the technology in the book might actually come to pass in the real world. By the middle of the book, I was praying that it doesn't! This was one of those books I didn't want to put down. I'll be one of those people on the wait list for any future Norman LaFave books.

    Must read debut novel!

If you're in the mood for a who-dun-it futuristic thriller with a new twist then Norman Lafave's debut offering Nanomagica should be the top of your "must read" list. Nanomagica starts with an almost graphic novel feel that modulates into a fast paced spy novel type adventure. Interlaced into all of this is a taste of the budding field of nanotechnology that will have you guessing at what is actually possible in the near future. By the end of the book you will be asking for the sequel (which I understand will be out next year).
