Ever since MC Shan declared in 1987 that New York's Queensbridge neighborhood was the birthplace of rap on the old-school classic "The Bridge" -- a claim the South Bronx crew Boogie Down Productions later denounced with "The Bridge Is Over" -- the borough of Queens has been a legendary location in hip-hop's colorful history. And in celebration of his fertile stamping ground, Queensbridge native son Nas assembled Queensbridge's Finest, a collection of tracks from Queens rappers past and present. Refreshingly void of materialistic rhymes, QB's Finest focuses on rugged beats and crafty lyricism. The lead single "Da Bridge 2001" borrows the booming kick and snare breakbeat from Shan's "The Bridge" and features verses by Nas, Mobb Deep, Nature, and Marley Marl. "Straight Outta Q.B." also pays homage to classic rap, as Jungle, Cormega, and Poet rhyme over the droning bass beat from N.W.A.'s call-to-arms anthem "Straight Outta Compton." Other highlights include the ominous, piano-accented "Teenage Thug," featuring Nas and Millennium Thug, and the steady, heavily synthesized Alchemist cut "Money," featuring Mr. Challish. With an all-star cast and tight production, Queensbridge's Finest marks yet another chapter in hip-hop's never-ending story. Abby Addis

    All-Star line-up

Queensbridge is the most talented hood in the world. Some many big names from one area and others that are very good who don't get much shine. The album has some much talent on it, it can't fail. This is must have LP.
