Overview

This text addresses practical issues and deals not only with the "how's" but the "why's" of advocated technical options available to the surgeon. In addition to fundamental surgical concepts, patient management and the socioeconomic issues, the book focuses on specific dilemmas encountered with both primary (or aesthetic) rhinoplasty as well as revisional (and reconstructive) nasal surgery. Selected examples of common problems encountered by the nasal plastic surgeon are presented. Case studies include an evaluation of the problem, along with a detailed description (using both photographs and drawings) of the techniques used for correction.

This book contains black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Neil A. Fine, MD (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
Description: This book describes one author's approach to nasal surgery, with an emphasis on rhinoplasty. Patient care, from office supplies and initial evaluation through operative techniques and postoperative care, is addressed.
Purpose: The purpose is to demonstrate one author's method of performing nasal surgery, including office set-up and postoperative care. This is a worthy objective that was approached, but not always reached.
Audience: This book is written for plastic surgeons and otolaryngologists interested in nasal surgery. It will be most useful to surgeons early in their careers. The author has broad experience in nasal surgery and is well respected in the field.
Features: The photographs and illustrations are all in black-and-white. The photos are usually clear and show the appropriate angles. The illustrations are not as clear as in other current rhinoplasty texts. The references are few, but there is not a great need for references in a book describing one author's approach. The overall appearance of the book is good. The strength of this book is the clarity of purpose provided by a single author.
Assessment: This book will be useful for surgeons who are in training or beginning a practice that will involve rhinoplasty. The author concisely presents his style from start to finish. The subject is complex, and a book of this size does not address all problems and certainly not all possible solutions. What it does offer is the experienced viewpoint of a single surgeon. This exchange of detail for a single, consistent approach will be worthwhile for many residents and young surgeons.
