Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Peg Glisson
Dramatic thrills and excitement are the order of the day in NASCAR. Readers will be entertained and enlightened on several photo finishes, wrecks (intentional or not), and strong rivalries. "Bump-and-run," and "pass in the grass" moves, both of which led to wins, are explained. Rough play, like the 1979 Yarborough/Allison altercation, and bizarre moments, like Petty's ending his career with a smashed, burning car, add interest. Like other titles in the "Edge Books NASCAR Racing" series, this book also contains numerous, well-placed color photographs with bold captions to augment the text. A chronological chart of "Greatest Moments" is included, as is a glossary, index, and suggested reading and internet sites. Short, simply written sentences make the information accessible to young or struggling readers. The book's clean, crisp design, using bold fonts, colors, and graphics, add to the appeal.
