Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
This over-sized reference book is an informative resource for younger children. It features a large and colorful map of each continent and on each map there are numerous small pictures of animals that indicate where that particular creature resides. A red dot next to the animal signifies that the animal is "at risk" for extinction. The map key indicates the type of region, such as desert or wetland. Because this book is intended for younger children it does not contain a lot of detailed information about each animal. In fact, most of the animals are described in only two to three sentences, but one animal from each continent is featured in a two page spread that includes a full sized photograph. The bright and glossy photographs brilliantly capture each of the animal's natural strength and beauty. Early readers will get an introduction to the animals of the world and will learn valuable map skills in the process. Reviewer: Denise Daley
