Children's Literature
The original story in this series has been reissued in a 30th Anniversary edition. Nate remains one of the "greats" in children's literature, a fun character whose stories are fun—and easy—to read. Nate's friend Annie calls, enlisting his aid in finding her missing painting of her dog. Having just finished his favorite breakfast of pancakes, Nate dons his Sherlock Holmes-like hat, his trench coat, and his rubbers and heads over to Annie's. He carefully examines the clues, redirects himself after a false lead makes two hours of digging a waste of time, and eventually discovers the missing painting. Simont's expressive watercolors show Nate's cool determination, provide visual clues for beginning readers, and add humor to the book. All kids deserve to know Nate! 2002 (orig. 1972), Delacorte Press,— Peg Glisson <%ISBN%>0385730179
