Overview

From the blood of the past, evil rises to seek undying vengeance... Prairie Bend.

Brilliant summers amid golden fields. Killing winters of razorlike cold. A peaceful, neighborly village, darkened by legends of death? Who is Nathaniel? For a hundred years, the people of Prairie Bend have whispered the name in wonder and fear. Some say he is simply a folk tale - a legend created to frighten children on cold winter nights. Some swear he is a terrifying spirit returned to avenge the past. And soon...very soon...some will come to believe that Nathaniel lives still - darkly, horrifyingly real. Nathaniel.

For young Michael Hall, newly arrived in isolated Prairie Bend after having lost his father to a sudden tragic accident, Nathaniel is the voice that calls him across the prairie night...the voice that draws him into the shadowy depths of the old, crumbling barn where he has been forbidden to go...the voice - chanting, compelling - he will follow faithfully beyond the edge of terror...Nathaniel.

This book was okay. There were a few very gripping and suspencful parts, but it wasn't as good as John Saul's other books. It was okay.

I am surprised the reviews for this are not better! This is my 6th Saul book and def. one of the best. I haven't found one yet that I didn't like and they all suck you in so quickly! This one will really surprise you, I usually predict outcomes in books (various books, all authors) and I did not see this coming!! A must read.

Disclaimer: I am an unabashed John Saul fan and have been for years. Nathaniel was a good read, although I have read other John Saul books that engaged me a little more, however, this one is up to his excellent standards. I was immediately engaged and interested in the story. Rural life, odd family secrets real or imagined ..... supernatural or generational events?! I liked it!

I've always been on the fence about John Saul, but I really enjoyed this book What really bothered me was that in the middle typos and errors became really frequent. I expect good grammar, especially when I'm paying for it.

Not as exceptional as it is the ending did not make any sense I was disappointed in this one not like his other stuff that he wrote. John Saul often pulls the rug out from under his readers but not this one.

I've never had to leave a bad review before, but this book was a waste of time and incredibly stupid. Beware! And yes, I read it from front to back.
