I live in the western US and really enjoy, camping, hiking, observation of wildlife, including birds. Binoculars are a great tool. "The Field Guide to Birds," by the National Audubon Society, answers my curiosity in helping to accurately identify the species I observe. For the novice, it is difficult to distinguish subtle difference between species from a pair of photographs that may not even show an entire bird. The discriptions of the various species are helpful, adding additional insight. In the process of looking for an answer to a single question, the result is always the addition of greater learning and a wider range of information that I had originally sought. The binding and cover makes the book much more durable for travel and outdoor use.
