Editorial Reviews

Booknews
An exciting development for birders: the revised edition of this truly classic field guide first, 1977 presents 544 Western species with 676 clear, high-quality photographs--which are much more accurate than those in the 1977 edition. Also different: the descriptive portion of the text is arranged by species rather than by habitat. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR booknews.com

As stated ... a great field guide for bird watching

I live in the western US and really enjoy, camping, hiking, observation of wildlife, including birds. Binoculars are a great tool. "The Field Guide to Birds," by the National Audubon Society, answers my curiosity in helping to accurately identify the species I observe.

For the novice, it is difficult to distinguish subtle difference between species from a pair of photographs that may not even show an entire bird. The discriptions of the various species are helpful, adding additional insight. In the process of looking for an answer to a single question, the result is always the addition of greater learning and a wider range of information that I had originally sought.

The binding and cover makes the book much more durable for travel and outdoor use.
