    Brilliant Book

The book was a very informative presntation of American History. It is a very good book for any American History student. This college-level book presents American History as it should to the average college student. It has a definate lack of pictures, and those that exist are only in black and white. AP History students may not enjoy the book, because they can not simply read the book by looking at all of the pretty pictures, however, as an AP student myself, I feel that the book is a excellent book. I would recommend it to any erious student.

    Awful book

This is the dullest textbook I have seen. Most pages are solid blocks of text -- the only pictures are in gray or red. There is a lot of information presented, but most of it is trivial. The authors assume the reader already knows everything about American history, so they make glancing references to major events like the Battle of Yorktown. They also have no concept of engaging a reader -- it takes about an hour to read and understand just ten pages. If you want a good American history textbook, buy some other one.

    Very dull

This is probably the dullest textbook I've ever read. The text is all the same size, most of the pictures don't correspond with the topic in the text, the maps are poor, and the transition word 'moreover' is found over fifty times per chapter. This book does offer good information but in a very dull and uninteresting fashion.

    Informative, but Dull

I used this book for my high school advanced history 1 class. It is extremely informative but very in depth - something that often created alot of confusion. Also, some topics were not explained in enough detail often requiring the reader to do outside research. Overall, very dull and hard to get through.

criticism of John Blum's 'the national experience'

Overall this book satisfied every necessity which a student would require. The only reason I'm giving it only four stars is it reads somwhat like a v.c.r. manual.
