This 5th edition of The National Geogrpahic Field Guide to Birds of North America continues the fine tradition of previous versions. The thumb tabs and back page indices allow quick location of species groups. The plasticized cover is also a nice addition. The drawings are not as complete as the Sibley guides but the range maps and text are excellent. I prefer the Geo guide's utilization of subspecies scientific names rather than Sibley's use of terms like 'taiga'. Every birder shoould own this book..it is a fine complement to the other popular field guides such as Sibley and Kaufman
