Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Brandon West
Young readers will go on an emotional and educational journey in this book. This addition to the “National Geographic Kids Chapters” series explores the rescues and rehabilitations of Runa and Kata, a pair of leopards; a sea turtle named Koa; and Crooked Neck, a lonely loon. Each tale of animal rescue features three chapters that are nine to ten pages in length. The first chapter details the reason for rescuing the animal(s), the second chapter focuses on rehabilitating the animals, and the third chapters describes what has happened to the animals after being released back into their native habitats. Each animal tale is endearing, and children are likely to devour each chapter. As with many titles in this series, there are plenty of photographs to complement the text. The book provides an appropriate reading challenge as it blends scientific concepts with the narratives. This title is nonfiction, which makes it perfect for any teacher looking for Common Core-friendly titles. Any animal lover should add this book to his or her library. Reviewer: Brandon West; Ages 7 to 10.
