Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
Two of the most devastating types of natural disasters are volcanoes and earthquakes. Everyone knows that volcanoes and earthquakes kill people, destroy property, and leave a lasting scar on the affected area. In this book, we learn information beyond these facts. For instance, lava from a volcano in Tanzania actually hardens in midair and splinters into tiny pieces. Aloso, life-forms called tube worms thrive in these extreme situations. Next, the book tells the scientific information that enlightens the reader about terms like tsunami, seismograph, and hydrothermal vent. The vivid and natural photography gives an up close look at real life effects of both catastrophes from all over the world. Creative fonts and page format make this book fun to read. On page 61, author Kathy Furgang, takes vocabulary to a higher level by providing not only the vocabulary words, but a short quiz to make sure readers understand them. All about this book gives brilliant information for future scientist. This book is part of the "Everything" series from Natural Geographic. Reviewer: Julia Beiker
