Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
Creepy, crawly, incredible. Such is the nature of this addition to the popular “National Geographic Little Kids First Big Books” series. This full-color volume provides a marvelous overview of the world’s sensational insects and answers a host of questions about them. More than 200 full color photographs and a wealth of intriguing information is sure to delight readers from kindergarten through fifth grade. This book is equally satisfying for readers who choose to read it cover to cover and those who choose to flip through and read the material that catches their eye. Hughes’ text is divided into eight chapters that proceed through a variety of species with remarks about insect characteristics, society, species, behavior, and environmental impact. This book would be well suited to the elementary school library or science classroom, but it would be an asset in the personal collection of any aspiring entomologist. Other titles in the series include Little Kids First Big Book of Animals, First Big Book of Why, Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs, Little Kids First Big Book of Planets, and First Big Book of the Ocean. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green; Ages 5 to 10.
