National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Insects and Spiders & Related Species of North America

My 4th grade child had to do a science project on bugs. 12 bugs had to be collected, bagged, identified and presented in a theme on poster board. I had already picked out an excellant source online and went to my local B&N to pick it up. While there I thumbed through the NWF book and saw what a great source it was. I compared it to my other choice and saw that it had the most pictures & descriptions. It also has beautiful photography, interesting info, easy to read and is laid out so that the bugs can be quickly looked up & identified. I don't even like bugs but I was fasinated by what I learned. My child got an A on her project!

Dr.Arthur Evans was my professor and we got this book for his class. He put a lot of effort into this book and that is very apparent. This book is very colorful and allows for easy identification of insects. If you're by no means a "bug expert" and just want to identify the local bugs where you live, I would highly recommend it. Great coffee table book!

    more from this reviewer

This book is useful, but could have had more added to it,

I have done Entomology in 4-H for 3 years now and between this book and my other 2 insect books I still have insects that are unidentified. This was my first insect book and personally, it could have had more insects added to it to make it more helpful. all in all though, i like it.

    Excellent source for identification

I am on a committee for identifying many things with the Master Gardeners. This has proved to be a great source.

    I Also Recommend:

Just what I was looking for.

We recently retired to a SC and encountered many new insects in our environment-some of them dangerous-like Black Widows and Brown Recluses.
This book has been a huge help in identifying what we need to be careful of and what is merely creepy looking! Easy browsing and terrific pictures.
I also bought the Field Guide for Snakes to help identify the poisonous ones...
