Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
White Deer of Autumn teaches, lectures and write about Native Americans. His life is devoted to the Native American way-living in harmony with the earth. This book tells about the child rearing techniques of certain tribes and the importance that the Native Americans placed on children. He talks about the freedom, games, earning a name and also contemporary lives. While the picture tends to be idyllic, there is certainly merit in learning the customs and practices, "the old ways," and making them a part of modern life. Begay provides black-and-white sketches that are interspersed throughout the chapters. Part of the "Native People - Native Ways" series.
