Native Americans: Five Centuries of Changing Images

Native Americans: Five Centuries of Changing Images

by Patricia Trenton, Patrick T. Houlihan

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
This book has something of a ``split personality,'' for it endeavors to do two things--describe the characteristics of the Native peoples of the ten major culture areas of North America (including significant traditional objects) and survey the ways in which Native Americans have been perceived by and depicted in the art of the Euro-American world. The former is covered in only a cursory manner, but the latter is admirably accomplished, providing cogent analysis of the changing attitudes toward Native Americans. Definitely recommended to academic and large public libraries with an interest in American, ethnic, or Native American studies.-- Eugene C. Burt, Seattle
