About the Author

Wendy Nan Rees has been involved in the pet industry for more than 25 years, starting when she founded Lip Smackers, Inc., dedicated to providing healthy, all-natural treats for dogs. The Lip Smackers bakery still operates out of the Pet Care Company in Hermosa Beach, California. Wendy created so many recipes that she was inspired to write her first book, No Barking at the Table: Canine Recipes Most Begged For. The book was so well received that No Barking at the Table 2 and No Catnapping in the Kitchen followed. Wendy then published The Name Game, a collection of celebrity essays on how and why they named their pets, along with over 1,000 suggestions of pet names.

Wendy's success as an author and dog treat creator led to numerous TV appearances. She was the Pet Lifestyle Advisor on Animal Planet's Petsburgh, USA, and has appeared on the Home Shopping Network. She also wrote a monthly column called "In the Kitchen with Wendy" for Your Pet Magazine.

Not one to rest on her successes, Wendy then helped to create Cedar Green, a line of all-natural pet odor eliminators. The signature product is Freshen Vac, a heat-activated odor eliminator that can be used in vacuum cleaners, dog beds, and air vents.

In 2000, Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer, which forced her to take a break from her career to focus her energy on her recovery. Today, she is happy to be cancer free and working on her Internet radio show, Wendy's Animal Talk, which airs Tuesdays at 1PM PST at www.healthylife.net. She also writes the column "Two Minute Dog Advice" for www.lovetoknow.com Her new line of natural pet products can be found on her website, www.wendynanrees.com.

Wendy lives in Los Angeles with her dogs Senator, Cappy, and Little Man.

Kevin Schlanger, DVM, is the owner of Westside Animal Medical Associates and chief veterinarian of Brent-Air Animal Hospital, located in Los Angeles. After a successful career as a management consultant for Price Waterhouse and the New Jersey Transit Corporation, he decided that his true calling was caring for animals. He was accepted to the top veterinary school in the country, the Universityof California, Davis—a notable achievement for an out-of-state applicant. During his four years there, he received numerous awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Payday Luff Memorial Scholarship for excellence in oncology and infectious disease and the Theodora Peigh Scholarship for demonstrated contributions in international programs. He graduated with honors in June 2000.

Dr. Schlanger first worked as an associate at an animal hospital in West LA. In 2003, he took over the practice at Brent-Air Animal Hospital. In two short years, what was a small one-doctor practice became a bustling three-doctor practice complete with boarding and grooming facilities. Dr. Schlanger quickly became one of the most sought-after veterinarians in Los Angeles, and Brent-Air Animal Hospital is now one of its most respected facilities. Nutrition is one of Dr. Schlanger's areas of expertise. In addition, he gives back to the community by working with nonprofit rescue groups such as Best Friends Animal Society and Westside German Shepherd Rescue.

Dr. Schlanger and his wife, Suzanne, are the proud parents of four children, Nicky, Aviva, Orly, and Michaela, as well as two dogs, Sydney, a Cocker Spaniel, and Sulley, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
