Editorial Reviews

Martha Greenberg
This new resource for providers is a comprehensive guide to natural products for common medical conditions. Overviews of natural medicine, conditions, and monographs on herbs, vitamins, etc., are presented. This handy reference offers information to healthcare providers about natural products, such as homeopathy, nutrition, and herbs for patient health management. The authors combine natural medicine with allopathic therapy. Physicians, nurses, physicians assistants, pharmacists, and students in the health sciences, especially if prescribing, will benefit from this book. The principal author has been involved in holistic health and practice for over 15 years, and appears to be well versed in the area. There are brief overviews of facets of natural medicine, monographs of herbs with dosing descriptions, cautions/warnings and interactions, numerous quick reference charts (e.g., drug-natural therapy interactions), and pediatric use, that are well organized and packed with current information. Algorithms and decision trees are presented under clinical conditions and are effective devices to direct clinicians to natural or traditional treatment options. The information in this manual is well detailed and specific, especially regarding the herbal homeopathic remedies. This is an extremely useful, comprehensive compendium of information on natural-herbal remedies that complement traditional allopathic treatments for clinicians to utilize for health enhancement and disease prevention. The authors do a terrific job of pulling a lot of up-to-date information together and presenting it in a pocket handbook that is portable and easy to use.
