Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen
This wonderful encyclopedia, part of the "Usborne Illustrated Encyclopedia" series, provides an amazingly thorough discussion of the natural world crammed into 96 pages. Beginning with plants, the book quickly progresses through the simple animals, dwells extensively on complex animals, discusses the major habitat types, and tosses in a little evolution for good measure. Each page is divided into three columns with many illustrations interspersed amongst the text. Asterisks in the text indicate topics discussed in other entries; cross-references appear at the bottom of the page. Highlighted boxes describe experiments the reader may perform to learn more.
