Meet the Author

Karen Fine began writing children's books when her oldest son was diagnosed with celiac disease because there were no books for toddlers available to help explain his new diet. Although her youngest son is not afflicted with the disease, she wanted to promote healthy eating to him as well. Through the experience of watching her young toddlers become strong young boys, she was inspired to help others learn to enjoy a healthy lifestyle at an early age. "Nature's Candy" is her second in a series of books that encourages young children to make sound decisions to live a happy and healthy life. Another great book on healthy choices

I always love Karen's books and my children and their teachers find the books wonderfully helpful in educating kids on making healthy choices. Kids always want junk and the more we can teach them that healthy choices are 'cool' and taking care of their bodies is important to their whole lives, the better off we will all be. Karen's series of books are adorably, educational, motivating and raise awareness on various dietary issues and choices.

Great way to encourage fruit instead of junk food!

What a cute book. I have kids who are always wanting junky snacks and candy, but I love the way that this book makes fruit so appealing as a healthy and tasty alternative. I read it with my kids (4 and 9) and we have a tasty piece of fruit afterwards to reinforce how good it can be.

An Educator's View: Healthy Eating... Read All About It!

Open the pages of Children Book Author Karen Fine's books and you'll take a whimsical, rhyming journey that inspires kids to eat healthy
foods. As an educator, I read the books to my 4th grade class (ages 9
and 10 years old) and they loved them! Fine was so kind to help
celebrate NEA's Read Across America at our school. Not only did she
support literacy in the classroom, but her school visit and the assembly
also inspired and educated kids about nutritious foods. My school
encourages the students to eat healthy snacks and one of Fine's books
mentions how vegetables and fruits as being "Nature's Candy." Her other
two books are "Veggiesaurus Lex" and "How I Eat Without Wheat."

With the current budget cuts in education, many schools are
finding ways to connect with the community. Fine also helped out our
school at the Barnes and Noble Family Fun Night, which was a collaborated
effort with our school and Barnes and Noble to help raise money for
school field trips. She made quite an impression and her presentation
was endearing to many of our parents, teachers and students.

Whether you are a parent, student or educator, I recommend Karen
Fine's books. Many of the health curriculum standards, as well as
reading/language arts standards, can be applied to her books. The
rhymes are easy to read and her stories engage readers to learn more
about the benefits of eating healthy foods.

    Age-appropriate options for children's snacks.

This book is ahead of its time in giving children real options -- as opposed to theoretical dictates -- from which they can themselves readily choose tasty, healthy alternatives to junk food.

    Great book!

My kids found it amazing that there are yummy, healthy options to all the advertised junky food. I love that Karen Fine writes books that educate and excite children to eat healthy. I highly recommend this book.
