Why does it always thunder after you see the lightning in the sky? This primary book with simple graphics teaches basic concepts of lightning, such as how it is formed, why it occurs, the temperature, the reason for thunder, the length of each flash, and various types. The graphics are simple and help to illustrate the text of the book. The book is a good first science book, with large font size and simple words so that middle readers will understand the book with limited help from adults. The last pages of the book contain a simple experiment to create lightening by using materials found around the house. The book also contains several facts about lightning, safety tips, a glossary of new words, places to find more information on the Internet and at the library, and an index with many of the key words from the book. 2004, Picture Window Books, Ages 6 to 8.
