    I like it, but...

There are some things I really liked about this Bible and then there are some things that I'm not so comfortable with. I've read several of the other reviews by other moms and I was surprised by how well liked this Bible is by them and how much they like the NCV. It makes me wonder if I am odd in being concerned about whether I read a paraphrase or a translation as my primary Bible. The NCV is a revision of the International Children's Bible.

This Bible is filled with devotions that are related well to the verses that they site. There is a short introduction at the beginning of each book of the Bible that explains what the book is about. At the end, there is a short reference list with all of the devotions listed. There is also an Appendix with questions that children ask about God. I really liked the answer to the question about what the trinity is. The answers are geared towards 2nd-5th+ graders. My little girl who is in first grade wouldn't quite understand all of the questions and/or answers. I thought her answer to whether the Bible says drugs are wrong was very different. I don't think it's the answer I would give. I would talk to my children about what drugs do to our bodies and that God tells us in the Bible to take care of our bodies.

There are a few things that I get particularly concerned about as a mom when I read a Bible or a devotional book. I think a lot times people read into the Bible and infer things about people in the Bible that God didn't include. An example is when people talk about Noah's wife. The Bible doesn't talk about her at all. A few years ago, Debbi Pearl's daughter wrote a devotional about how submissive Noah's wife was and how she did exactly what her husband said. But, the Bible doesn't say either way. Bobbie Wolgemuth writes an entry about Noah's wife and though she doesn't infer as much as Debbi Pearl's daughter did, she does infer information that isn't included in the Bible.

Another thing I get concerned about for women is how submission and authority is addressed. As a culture, we sidestep the issue of submission and many churches preach the idea of "yielding to one another" (as the NCV says) rather than wives submitting to their husbands. It feels like we are surrounded by a culture that tells us we only have to do what we want to--we deserve to be treated certain ways and so on. But, we are to live in this world and not be of it. When we look to a translation and devotionals that soften the words and meaning of such verses, it feels like we are becoming a part of the world--changing the words so that we can accept them more easily and be comfortable with with they ask us to do and be.

I am glad to have had the chance to really read and look at the NCV. I've wondered about it. It has made me think again about translations and paraphrases and what I read. This Bible also made me think about what I am convicted of when I found myself sporadically disagreeing with what Mrs. Wolgemuth wrote. And eventhough this isn't a Bible I personally would read regularly, I deeply respect all that she and her daughter wrote in the devotions. There is a lot of good, solid wisdom in this book for moms.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson for review.

Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom For Mothers Review

This Bible is the New Century Version which means that the language is very easy to understand. Personally I enjoyed this version. It makes it easier to share a verse with your child and have them understand what is being said. There are tons of notes and insights throughout that relate the Bible teachings to motherhood and there's even a section in the back called "Answers To Questions Kids Ask".

The thing that first drew me to this Bible was the cover. It has a hard cover with some raised lettering and very nice colors. It lies flat easily and is very sturdy. The pages inside are also nicely laid out with a decorative border.

Overall I think this is a beautiful Bible that can help inspire mothers to be the best that they can be. It would make a fantastic gift for a great mom you know or for yourself.

A gift for a new Mother

I wanted to do something special for both of them. So for my niece I gave her "Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers" (the NCV version). I know that she has her trusty KJV and that it lives with her. But a companion bible is always nice. And I loved the way this one was both a study bible and a devotional too. My niece knows that her guidance is very important in their home. Especially since her husband has to travel for work so often. So having these tools at her finger tips is always helpful. I do wish to thank Thomas Nelson Publishers for letting me share this gift with her. What a great mom's gift to give to a expecting mother.

    Reviewed by a mom

The Mom's Bible is an New Century Version of the Bible , full of insights, devotions and advice for moms. It is presented in a fairly compact , sturdy hard cover that is easy to hold and endure much. The typeface is a standard size and easy for most people to read. I am a bit familiar with the author of the notes Bobbie Wolgemuth which is one reason i chose this bible. She goes through great lengths in the book to prove the credibility of the other contributors, who are also mothers and women who can relate to many moms, being moms themselves.

I do not like modern versions of the bible.especially ones that "dumb down" the words in an attempt to make it more readable or relative to today's society. Once I got past that prejudice, I found the notes very insightful, biblical and encouraging. I really appreciated how most of the devotions were carefully written from a mom's perspective to help us see how to apply scripture to our mothering skills and how we can be better women. Another feature I was drawn to was the notes on Mom's of the Bible. Many notes are written not just for mom's but for women in general. Overall, I really like this Bible for the notes/devotions and would recommend it for other women.it would make a wonderful mother's day gift, too, dad's !

Bible with great added features for moms

I had the great opportunity to receive a copy of and review the Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers (New Century Version) from Thomas Nelson Publishers.

This Bible is packed with great extras like introductions that present the setting for each book in the bible, a large section filled with questions that kids ask and answers for them, life lesson from biblical mothers, ways to build Godly character, advice from a Christian therapist and more.

I was so pleasantly surprised as I started looking into all the features of this Bible. It is a sturdy hardcover with detailing on every page and the layout on the pages is easy to read. The extras that are included that I mentioned above are such a great addition to the Bible and give you several things you can use to apply to your everyday life. I have never read a NCV Bible before, but I find the wording to be easy to understand without being completely different from the NIV that I am used to. There are some lined pages in the back where you can write and I am excited to fill this book with prayers for my children. I see this as being a Bible that I use for the rest of my life as I pray for my children during their childhood and in their adult life.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this Bible, but I really like all of it's features and can honestly say that I would highly recommend it to any mother. I think it would make a really great gift for a new mother or for Mother's Day.

    Wonderful encouragement for Mom's

I received the Mom's Biblefrom Thomas Nelson for review.

From the publisher: Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mother gives women an awareness of just how precious and vital they are in God's plan for the family.

Available in the New Century Version and drawing on solid Bible teaching, it encourages women at every stage of life to strengthen their relationship with God.

My thoughts: I read through Esther in the Old Testament and Ephesians and James in the New Testament along with the notes included in those chapters to get a feel for this Bible. It has short encouragement stories for Mom's by Bobbie Wolgemuth printed throughout the book to go along with the verses. It makes many great applications to real situations Mom's face.

I really appreciated the side notes. They offered encouragement to me as a mom. I look forward to using this bible and enjoying it in the future. I liked the font and that it is hard cover as well.

This Bible would make am excellent gift for mom's birthday, Mother's Day or even a shower gift for a new mom.

    My thoughts on Mom's Bible

I love reading, especially the Bible. I'm a busy mom and am always looking for inspiration to get me through the day.

That's why I like the "Mom's Bible, God's Wisdom for mothers". It has short, sweet notes throughout it by Bobbie Wolgemuth. The New Century Version is a bit different from what I'm use to, (I'm a King James or NIV kind of girl), but it's very easy to read and understand.

The look of this hardcover bible is both classy and elegant with paisley printed pages.

I found that this Bible's features were the best part. With many different topics to choose from, I could find a note to suit me for the day. The part I most enjoy is the "Walking In" topics, which help bring balance to my everyday life.

    A Must for Mother's Everywhere

The Mom's Bible - God's Wisdom for Mothers with Notes by Bobbie Wolgemuth is a must have for every mom. It doesn't matter what religion you are or what version of the bible you prefer to read, this bible is the perfect companion to any scriptural library. It is published in the NCV format which is easy comprehension for anyone at any level. I've used it as a daily devotional, a study bible for passages needing easier clarity and a reference for help with situations arising with my children. I have been reassured of my worth as a mother in God's eyes and given a guide to how to answer some of the tough questions my children ask regarding Jesus, God, the scriptures and how we are to apply the bible to our lives today.

The bible itself is hard back, which took a little getting used to, but very light and easy to carry. The pages are beautifully designed but a little thin so be careful when highlighting. I chose to underline instead so as not to have the bleed through. This bible offers something for all us mothers out there whether it is from the introductions at the beginning of each chapter, to the Insights, the Walking in., the Godly Character, Passing It On, Moms in the Bible, Wonderful Counselor, Questions Kids Ask, the Topical Index or the First Touch verses there is much food for the weary, wounded and hungry soul of a mother. You can make it a devotional just by picking one of those topics and studying them on a daily basis along with your reading. I look forward to using this bible over and over throughout the years and recommend this to any "new" mom or "mom to be" who is looking for a firm foundation on which to build her family.

    Better than expected!!!!

This Bible is the New Century Version with notes by Bobbie Wolgemuth. While, in two weeks time I have not read this entire Bible (can you believe it?) LOL

When I got this book It was not at all heavy or large and bulky like I would have thought it to be.

The hard cover durability of this Bible is also very nice. Given that it will likely land in the home of many small hands, it is great that it is durable for Mom, but still a great size for silent devotion.

While this would not be my first choice for a study bible, it will definitely be used for daily devotions and topical studies. I highly recommend this Bible for all moms who are seeking to understand God's plan for their lives.

Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers

The Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers with notes by Bobbie Wolgemuth is beautifully designed inside and out, written in the New Century Version. This Bible is a wonderful devotional to help encourage and give strength to moms of all ages and stages on a daily basis by using God's Holy Word.

I like the reference to "You Can Be A Great Mom" because there have been many times in my life that I have felt that I am not the best mom and I am sure you have or will feel that way in your life too at some point. I was thrilled to learn of the Mom's Bible because I wanted a more personal interaction with my daily Bible reading and this was just the best news ever. I have browsed through it and I like what I see and read from the inclusion of the many wonderful features.

If you have small children, the section on "Questions Kids Ask" will be a blessing to you. There is one question that you may want to share. What's An Idol? Since, many families including Christian families watch American Idol this is an excellent question to ask and answer. You will find many questions and answers that you may have wanted to ask but kept it to yourself.

Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers

The language in the Mom's Bible is very easy to read and understand. It's written in the New Century Version translation which I was not familiar with. The Mom's Bible contains sections with questions, answers to questions, a topical index, and first touch verses. Throughout the Bible are special devotionals that cover a wide variety of topics. I also really loved the Questions Kids Ask section!

This is a beautiful hard cover Bible with raised lettering on the cover. It's an easy size and weight to carry around or to leave on your night stand for bedtime devotionals. There are 1504 pages in total. The text is writte in brown ink which might be a bit hard for some to read.

Each book of the Bible has an introduction with information on what the book is about, why it was written, and how Mom's might be able to relate to what's happening. I enjoyed the every day language the Mom's Bible is written in. I think it will help someone who isn't that familiar with the Bible to be able to understand it more easily. The Mom's Bible makes a super devotional for moms. However if you're really looking for a study Bible, I think I'd stick to the KJV instead.

When is it OK to say No according to the scriptures?

I was completely honored to have this opportunity to review this Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers by Bobbie Wolgemuth, General Editor. I have always wanted a specialty Bible for Moms after purchasing one for my husband, Steve for Father's Day last year.

Not only do you have the word of God present but along with that comes some sound advice for Moms, one of my favorites, when saying No has been appropriate throughout the Bible.

The Bible is perfect for carrying in a large handbag as it measures little over 5 inches by 7 inches. The text is written in New Century Version which is similar to New International Version. Its designed to make the Word of God flow more along the lines with today's language.

I was given this opportunity to review this complimentary Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishers. The only thing I have to say would be an improvement in this Bible would be the font color. It's published in a light tan and I would have difficulty reading this in low light. I would recommend that it would be published in a much more darker font. This Bible is perfect for me to keep next to my computer for immediate reference when I need a scripture reference.

    Wisdom for Mothers

The Bible, the inspired Word of God, is meant to be read and studied by us. Reading through the Bible provides strength for daily trials, and motivation for pursuing God's plan for our lives. "Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers" (NCV version) by Thomas Nelson Publishers is a wonderfully enhanced Bible written to help mothers glean special thoughts and strength from God's Word. This version of the Bible is filled with Scripture that is understandable and easy to read. It also contains explanations of the passages read, applications for daily use, and situations and stories that bring the text to life.
"Mom's Bible" is set up traditionally, Genesis to Revelation, which makes finding your favorite passages quick and easy. The notes, etc., are well written and applicable to just about everyone. The setup of Scripture and notes on the same page may take a little time to adjust to, but everything flows easily and naturally so the adjustment time is short.
When I received my copy of this Bible, I was thrilled with the way it is constructed. While I like soft covers, this hard cover works. The pages have muted colors that draw your eye to the extra points but don't "blare" at you. The extra notes and explanations touched me as a mother personally, and I will continue to enjoy this Bible for years. It is great for gift giving, something I will be doing.

    God's Wisdom for Mothers

I loved reading this Mom's Bible! The New Century Version is an easy to read translation that everyone will understand. The layout of the entire Bible is pleasing to the eye, and it is interspersed with tons of valuable commentaries and day to day applications. This Bible is a treasure and a valuable reference book for any Mom, young and old alike.

I really enjoyed reading the section at the back of the Bible titled "Answers to Questions Kids Ask". Just a few of the questions are: "Why is the Dead Sea dead?; Why do good people suffer?; Do I have a guardian angel?; Does God sleep?; Can a man really live inside a fish for three days?; and Did Jesus ever want to do bad things?"

The answers to these questions begin with a relevant scripture reference, followed by a simple commentary that a child could easily understand. Kids ask some pretty tough questions, and I wish that I had this Bible when my own children were small. It is an incredible reference for all the important things that we struggle with as mom.

If you are a Mom of small children, or if you know a Mom who has her hands full with little ones, this Bible would be a wonderful gift that will be treasured for years.

I would give this Bible a rating of 5 out of 5. It is awesome!

    Mom's Bible.

I am really enjoying the layout of this bible. I love the fact that is compact and not too heavy and can easily be carried around with me! There were two things that I absoultly loved about this bible - the insights, and the questions. I enjoyed the insights that are, in a sense magnified. The end of the bible it has a section titled "Answers to Questions Kids Ask," it seems that will probably be a handy source sometime in the near future!

I recieved this bible for review from Thomas Nelson Publishers.
