Overview

The lyrics of our favorite hymns are rich in images that can help us in our daily walk with God--they are miniature Bible studies that lead us effortlessly toward worship, testimony, exhortation, prayer, and praise. They're bursts of devotional richness with rhyme and rhythm. They clear our minds, soothe our nerves, verbalize our worship, summarize our faith, and sing our great Redeemer's praise. Bestselling author Robert J. Morgan has gathered 366 hymns, including favorites such as "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages," as well as classic, lesser-known gems such as "In the Garden" and "Teach Me to Pray."

Each devotional begins with Scripture, includes a story about the hymn or its writer and the lyrics to the hymn, and ends with a prayer. An index of hymn titles and first lines is included. What better way to end your devotional reading than with a song in your heart?

I am so glad I down-loaded this book for my new Nook. The church I attend uses contempary music and seldom do we sing the old hymns that are so well-known. The book can be used as a devotional as the author reviews a hymn and its history for each day of the year. It is a great book.

I found out about the limited time free offer for this book through a friend who follows the authors web site. It is a very nice way to have a daily devotional reading. On the day that I know the melody of the hymn it leaves me with a nice song going through my head. On the days that I don't know the melody I enjoy the poetry. It is fine if you miss a few days you can just pick up with the current day. The daily readings are listed by day and month so the book can be used for many years.

This has been a real blessing to us. We use it during out evening devotional time. The brief history shared with each hymn gets one to think about what God was doing in the life of the writers and how it can apply to one's own life. Just reading about the hymn and then reading the words and the scripture that goes with it, focuses one on the Lord and what it means in our lives. It seem that the church has forgotten how hymns brought us closer in our relationship with God. It makes me recall how much I learned to singing hymns as a child and that all them are still with me as a very senior citizen. Robert Morgan has done a great job, and it was for the glory of God.
