KLIATTBy now, these volumes are an annual tradition in my junior high library with the SF crowd, and students who have moved on to high school offer their input too. As always, we don't necessarily agree with the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, but the book makes a great piece for reader's advisory, interlibrary loan ideas, and author/book discussion. This year is no exception. Richard Chwedyk's "Bronte's Egg" got a "way cool" response, while Ted Chiang's "Hell is the Absence of God" was deemed too complicated by most of my junior high readers, although the senior high kids thought it was "edgy." Probably one of the best uses of SF funds in any given year. KLIATT Codes: JSA*—Exceptional book, recommended for junior and senior high school students, advanced students, and adults. 2004, Penguin, Roc, 280p., Ages 12 to adult.
