Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Endings are not a tragedy to be first feared and later regretted but a necessary stage on the way to growth, says clinical psychologist and bestselling author of The One-Life Solution. Endings are a crucial way to get what we desire by shedding those things whose time has passed. The author addresses the benefits of concluding unsatisfying work or personal relationships, and he advises readers on diagnosing when the situation can be resuscitated or must be shut down. This "pruning" process can spark readers out of passivity or paralysis, getting them motivated and energized for change. With many examples of people moving on from untenable circumstances and through specific strategies for ending things well, Cloud advocates for powerful personal changes just in time for the New Year, and will give many readers the fresh start they crave. Dr. Cloud clearly explains that endings happen in life naturally and regularly and how we handle them can make the quality of our life healthy and vibrant or poor, fear filled, and stagnant. He does an excellent job helping us see why we may have difficulties ending relationships, and businesses processes. Dr. Cloud then goes on to lay out a path to success to help one determine how best to analyze one's situation or relationship and determine whether we can know for sure whether to continue down a path, adjust it, or terminate it. I love the Biblical and practical wisdom Dr. Cloud uses as the foundation of this book. Thank you for writing this excellent keepsake and giving me more confidence on my life's journey!

Based upon his experience as a counselor and business coach, Cloud presents proven methods for understanding and dealing with people (as well as yourself), particularly with regard to when it is time to terminate a relationship or a situation and move on. Cloud also spends some time on a basic way of looking at people through a three-sided lens: wise people, foolish people and evil people. While he does says this is an over simplification of humanity, he does believe it has proven to be a helpful prism for dealing with life. I did enjoy a previous book co-authored by Henry Cloud with John Townsend better, and purchased this book thinking it would be much like "Boundaries". "Necessary Endings" while worth the money and the time is focused equally on business life and personal life. I would prefer more focus on the personal side.

Cloud has written a much need guide for leaders that seem to be frozen in an organization that needs to change. He doesn't present an easy road to travel but one with tough decisions that can result in a better future for the business or group one leads.
