edge of my seat, ride of a life

I'm a thriller fanatic, so had to mention Dun. Haven't read his work, but feels like he's been writing forever...knew exactly how to keep me where I wanted to be -- the edge of my seat, puzzled by a bigger picture that you just have to get to...you know -- peek and see because even a master reader like me couldn't get the final sense of where he was headed -- or where the characters would end up, what the evil men were ultimately up to. Along the way, I appreciate a love story. Gotta have it. IT's here. Any others out there with any news on Dun's other works, if any or any to be releases? This is awesome, plot-twisting, calculated reading...FIVE STARS!

    A Great Thriller

A Great Thriller by a New Author. Some original plot ideas, a great sense of suspense, and four great characters make for a good read in this, Dun¿s first novel. If you like adventure thrillers with an outdoors emphasis you¿ll love this. The survival and wilderness skills aspect of this book are intriguing. I still wouldn¿t go camping but I loved this story. The medical part may have been slightly overdone. But the action was terrific. The romance perfect. I loved the Tilok Proverbs and the Native American slant to the story. Mysticism vs Science. All of it held my attention and I couldn¿t stop. I¿m afraid it produced at least one very bare macaroni and cheese dinner. It¿s hard to read and cook at the same time.

    Too Much Fun

Don¿t go hiking in the Mountains with Tillman!!! This bad guy isn¿t as good a bad guy as Hannibal but he isn¿t too far off. Every good thriller needs a well developed bad guy and Dun has certainly solved that half of the equation. The other half of the puzzle, the good guys, he does even better. Kier the mountain veterinary doctor fellow is terrific even if hard to believe. But do you believe in Jack Ryan? Well this guy is sensitive, tough, determined, smart, clever, educated but instinctive, incredibly strong, and well all the other stuff you would expect. Of course he has major problems and that¿s what makes the story. Jessie Mayfield, the no-nonsense FBI agent that he drags around the mountains is his first problem. His second is Tillman. You¿re never sure whether Kier handles Jessie or Jessie handles Kier and you wonder if they are ever going to handle eachother. Action is fantastic. Setting is nearly perfect. It¿s a great read.

Start to finish you won¿t want to put it down

Once I started this action packed thriller I didn¿t want to put it down. There was only one hokey scene and that¿s much better than average. It¿s the horse scene. If you¿re female disregard, as the women I know love the horse scene. You¿ll know it when you get there. Other than that this book is a total page turner. The science is really pretty interesting. The wilderness scenes are the best I¿ve read. You have to read this book in a sweater unless you¿re someplace warm. Dun is a very visual writer and is very good at putting you right there. The action scenes are as good as most I¿ve scene. Kier the hero and Jessie the heroine are both well developed and interesting with well done conflicts both inner and between one another. Tillman the evil genius is truly scary and has enough semblance of real life to set you thinking. I like those kinds of bad guys. The writing is very good but doesn¿t get in the way of the story. Dun doesn¿t try to dazzle us with his pros. He just tells a very good story.

Buy it for your next vacation - it works!

It says it¿s escapist fiction on the cover. You better believe it. It¿s part survival story, part chase, part romance and part medical thriller. But it all works really well. Kier is a Tilok Native American veterinary doctor who mixes modern medicine and more traditional remedies and as a result is very popular in the local white community. He¿s a native (actually he has some caucasion in his blood lines) who has made it in a white man¿s world but he struggles with what he calls the ¿temptation to pedal Indian mysticism.¿ Basically a peaceful guy he¿s forced to turn to violence of sorts (he¿s full of tricks that actually relieve him of the necessity to kill frequently) in order to deal with Tillman the mad pharmaceuticals mogul. Conveniently Tillman is a world class hunter. To take on Tillman and his small army Kier is paired up with Jessie the big city gal and FBI agent. Kier and Jessie argue about most everything even while they are ¿noticing¿ each-other. Once the action starts the book is a real page turner. Most will be captivated by this story. This is one of the best of its kind that I have read.

Dun is good. Just ask Cussler!

This is some of the best 'edge of your seat' thriller action I have read in the last few years. I love to read action packed thrillers and usually don't try new authors but the cover and summary grabbed my attention. I was not disappointed this is as good as any Clancy or Cussler novel I have read. Looking for more to come from Dun... Can't wait to read the next one. What a great title 'Necessary Evil.' -Joe

    entertaining, non-stop action medical thriller

FBI computer crime specialist Jessie Mayfield leaves her New York office to ¿hide¿ at the home of her sister in Wintoon County, California. Jessie is entangled with a nasty situation involving her boss. As a snowstorm blankets the High Country, veterinarian Dr. Kier Wintripp is also at the home of Jessie¿s sister tending to a horse when the jet exploded nearby.
Jessie and Kier go to investigate and find death and vials apparently filled with diseases along with volumes of notes. Before they can leave the area of the crash, non-government militia arrives blanketing the vicinity. Jessie and Kier fight to survive against an evil who believes in a genetically chosen master race. To achieve his goal, Dr. Tillman understands that future history will condemn him as a NECESSARY EVIL because he will have committed genocide on a scale that make Stalin and Hitler look like school children. Only, a Native American vet with some survival skills and a FBI agent never in the field stand in his way, but not for long.
NECESSARY EVIL is an entertaining, non-stop action medical thriller. The story line never slows down for a second once it goes into hyper-speed. Though readers have to accept Kier¿s skills and how scientifically advanced Tillman¿s team is compared to the world, action thriller fans will not care because the plot is entertaining and fun to read.
Harriet Klausner
