Overview

Grim Agents of Cosmic Forces...

In the early twentieth century, legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft described an ancient tome as "the unmentionable Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred . . . a book which I had never seen, but of which I had heard monstrous things whispered." In the early twenty-first century, best-selling author Donald Tyson wove the myriad rumors and whispers of Lovecraft's dread grimoire into the epic fantasy novels Necronomicon and Alhazred. Intended as a trilogy, this tarot completes Tyson's formidable work.

The Necronomicon Tarot brings the phantasmagoric desert wanderings of Alhazred to life in a stunningly visceral deck and companion book. Seventy-eight captivating illustrations by fantasy artist Anne Stokes capture the mythic and monstrous world of Tyson's Necronomicon while remaining true to the underlying structure and tradition of tarot. Prepare to enter a world where the accursed and tormented poet wanders in search of the greatest and darkest magic — divination with the dead.

This kit includes 78-card tarot deck and 240-page companion tarot book.

Meet the Author

Anne Stokes (United Kingdom) is a professional illustrator whose fantasy artwork is popular in the games industry, specifically among products published by Wizards of the Coast and Mongoose Publishing.

Donald Tyson is a Canadian from Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Early in life he was drawn to science by an intense fascination with astronomy, building a telescope by hand when he was eight.  He began university seeking a science degree, but became disillusioned with the aridity and futility of a mechanistic view of the universe and shifted his major to English.  After graduating with honors he has pursued a writing career.

Now he devotes his life to the attainment of a complete gnosis of the art of magic in theory and practice.  His purpose is to formulate an accessible system of personal training composed of East and West, past and present, that will help the individual discover the reason for one's existence and a way to fulfill it.

    Very well done!

The artwork is amazing, and the form it uses for readings makes things easier and also utilizes the Trump cards like they should be.

    Great Deck!!

Just got the deck and, I love it. It is a darker deck not the bright colorful ones I am used to. Works good for me and very easy to read.

    Beautiful, but distracting

The artwork on these cards is simply amazing, and I do recommend this deck to any fan of H. P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos. But that is where I draw the line - as a tool for readings, this deck's flamboyantly different artistic liberties make the cards difficult to empathize with; unlike more traditional Rider-Waite, Robin Wood, or Hanson-Roberts decks, the meanings of the cards get lost in the rebellious showmanship that is so different from each card's intended meaning. Definitely for experienced readers only, and even then, your mileage may vary.

    Not For the Beginner.

I personally love the Necronomicon Tarot. Each card has detailed descriptions and explanations. The book that comes with the cards also comes in handy. It has an introduction and a history of the Necronomicon. Also, the book describes a journey in which the creatures in the Major Arcana come from. In the back of the book there it tells of a way to lay out your cards so that they are most effective. Overall, I find the Necronomicon very useful to have for the Tarot reader. The cards are beautiful and the book teaches you all you need to know about them. I recommend it to any Tarot reader or someone who is just curious.
