Overview

Lady Antebellum prefaced the release of Need You Now by issuing its title track as a single; it reached the top spot on the country charts and stayed there for five straight weeks. It was their second number one, and they wasted no time following it with "American Honey," which appeared a mere two months before this set was in stores. This singing/songwriting trio -- lead vocalists Charles Kelly and Hillary Scott, with multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist Dave Haywood -- understand how Nashville works, and they know how to work it. On their sophomore effort, they stick very close to the formula of their debut: a slew of mid- and uptempo love songs, a sad ballad, and a couple of rocked-up good-time tunes, all self-written with some help from some of Nashville's most respected writers. Kelly's baritone is emotive, expressive, and deep in the pocket, no matter what he's singing. He shines on the soft rocking "Love This Pain," which could have been a single. Scott's voice is a little less distinctive, but she does possess a unique form of phrasing and reaches deeply into her protagonist's personal situations, whether it's the celebratory good-time girl in "American Honey" or the wildly-in-love mature woman on "Hold on Tight." The group party anthem on the set -- an obligatory addition these days -- is "Stars Tonight," which contains more than a few clichés, but has a killer guitar riff and an infectious chorus. With co-production from Paul Worley, Lady Antebellum prove there is no sophomore slump on Need You Now. Here, the band's seamless, polished, and savvy brand of contemporary country is even more consistent than it was on their debut; it's virtually flawless in its songwriting, production, and performance.

I really liked this purchase. The CD arrived in good condition, there was a little delay in shipping but that wasn't a big deal. The CD was great and I would recommend this CD to fans of country music. They will enjoy the songs and some of them will hit you on a personal level. It would be a good addition to any CD collection.

I bought it for the song Need you now and surprisingly liked the rest of the cd too. I typically don't listen to country but this one is not your typical country cd. So if you like the song Need you now I would recommend this cd and you might be surpised like I was and like the whole cd.

This is a great example of cross-over style of music. I'm a jazz lover who listens to lots of modern rock & roll, but I love Lady Antebellum too.

Quality and delivery time was as promised. My favorite way of buying books, etc. is through the store. But, if that is not an option, on-line buying is a really good Barnes and Noble experience.

Love this group. I am a fan of many genre of music and this covers the cross over(s) to a T. The harmony, genuine emotion, the heart felt.... everything....is perfect.

Living outside the USA you can only buy the international version of this album. Brought to my attention by a friend, there's an american edition of the album with slide guitar. That's my thing. After a long look B&N was the place to be. NO REGRETS at all buying the american version, i like this much better. It's more country than the international version. I'd almost say "shame on you LadyA" but than again i know the international market doesn't want real country. LadyA congratulations on your CMA for best vocal group and song of the year.

This group just keeps getting better. I thought I loved their first CD but this one is even better. They're part country, part rock. I am not a particular fan of country music but this album is one of my favorites!

This is the time of year I generally reserve for melancholic or at least mellow tunes. But after watching Lady Antebellum on the Grammy's, I decide to cave and by this album. I already knew I liked the title track and find myself at random points in the day singing the lyric, "It's a quarter after 1, I'm a little drunk and I need you now." "Hello World" gave me chills, while tears pricked my eyes. During "Perfect Day," I couldn't help but wish I was at the lake. I loved "Ready to Love Again" and "Love This Pain." The album has a good variety of styles yet remains cohesive. It's rare to find an album anymore that you want to listen to all the way through without skipping tracks. Lady Antebellum's "Be Here Now" proves to be the exception. Listening to this album is like finding a warm, sunny piece of summer in the middle of winter.

After Garth Brooks retired I slowly got out of listening to alot of country music and then I heard Lady Antebellum. They are fantastic and so is this CD. Need You Know has become one of my favorite songs and the entire CD is great. I highly recommend getting this CD.

I really like this CD, I think the group has great vocals and harmony. This band has a lot of Star potential and I hope they go far! This is the first CD I've bought in about 2 years, and I'm very glad I did. I would recommend this to my friends and family.
