Adult/High School-Hounded continues the "Negation" tradition of clever, high-stakes storytelling. De facto leader Kaine and his archenemy Komptin end up on a quarantined world, and the spotlight turns to some of the secondary characters, like Atlantean Corrin, who is finally persuaded that the situation is not a dream, and sigil-bearer Westin and the mysterious Lizard Lady, who team up to get some black-market technology to rescue Kaine. The art is detailed and colorful, with imaginative aliens and a solid sense of place, from various home worlds to futuristic cities and ships. For what's happening back on Earth with the remaining Atlanteans, turn to Chaos Reborn. Two mysterious strangers arrive and cause havoc, claiming that they have been instructed to "toughen up" the group. While they fight cowboys and Incans, the warrior Aristophanes prepares to betray them by awakening four other Atlanteans. Then, the group is splintered as Galvan sides with Aristophanes, Danik drags Capricia off for her mysterious destiny that involves getting pregnant, the alien beast Thraxis fights off Negation hordes, and the remainder of the group is exiled to San Angeles, the city that covers California. To top it all off, Terra Cognito, the company that was running Earth as a theme park and was chased off by the Negation, returns to reclaim its investment. The art is as good as that in Hounded, and the two titles complement one another well.-Susan Salpini, Fairfax County Public Schools, VA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
