Well written and lots of fun.

I loved this book. Martin is a real writer, not just a "mystery writer." The crime world of Hong Kong has an unlikely intersection with the music world that Martin, who lived in HK for 17 years, is able to expose with wit, charm and experience. His riffs on music critics, bureaucratic police chiefs and the dismal lot of those poor souls condemned to become viola players are hilarious. Everyone I have told about this book has said it's unputdownable.

Unusual--keeps you guessing to the last page

This is the first book I have read that takes place in Hong Kong. It is also the first book I have read that, in effect, has an orchestra as a character. The combo makes a most interesting and enjoyable book. Besides learning about Hong Kong nicknames and reading jokes about those who play the viola (violaists?), I found the mystery/thriller well plotted and the characters interesting.

The final mystery--will Charles stick to Hong Kong and the strange nicknames, or introduce us to an entirely new setting in his next book?

Received this book as a gift and after I started it I couldn't put it down! Not only suspenseful and surprising but with great characters, and funny! I recommend this book to anyone that likes good mysteries. Hoping there is another one coming soon!
