More than any other recent television show, Fox's The X-Files has captured the imagination of sci-fi fans around the world. With its blend of the paranormal, the classic girl-guy detective story, government conspiracies, and the just-plain-nasty, this show manages to touch all of our deepest fears while maintaining a gloss of sophistication and wit. The two stars, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, are possibly the most popular actors among netizens--we know, at least, that Anderson was recently voted the sexiest woman on the Web in a newsgroup poll, beating Lois and Clark's Teri Hatcher by a few thousand votes. Other more minor characters are just as admired, and X-Files pictures and sound clips are coveted treasures. X-Phile-do m knows no bounds and fantastic fan pages number in the hundreds. When it comes to the Web, the truth is really out there.

Official X-Files Site The Fox official X-Files site is subtle marketing disguised as a fan page, but you knew that already and, if those in control are going to amuse us this well. . . Also, because it's legal promotion, we know that the co pyright hit men won't be stalking it as they do the sites created by dispensable fans. So put on your trench coat, grab some sunflowe r seeds, and go "undercover" to meet creator Chris Carter, the writers, directors, and special effects crew. This section also provides slick info about Scully, Mulder, Skinner, Cancer Man and the rest of the gang. Classified Tapes offers vid clips from "Pilot," "Deep Throat," "Conduit," "Ice", "Fallen Angel," and "Eve." X-Quest (an interactive simulation) and X-Sightings (fan merchandise and Operation X, an excellenttrivia contest) round out this conspiracy to make you watch no other show. Except, o f course, Millenium, Chris Carter's other pet project.

Ben's X-Files Page Like most X-Files fan pages, Ben's is black and green, but few have such an interesting collection of international X links as this one does. Sounds, pictures, trivia, the whole works--even links to the CIA, NASA, and Rom e Air Force Base, for "rumored UFO research."

Bureau of Federal Investigation--X Files Division Do you have a government al security clearance? Or can't you even get past the metal detectors at the airport? Either way, you'll enjoy this site. Somebody with way too much time on his hands has made an awesome version of a top secret government agency's files. Get past the first password-protected page (don't be intimidated, just enter any old thing) and into the heart of The X-Files Division. FAQs, images, newsgroup archives, episode guides, and more are waiting for you.

The Definitive David Duchovny FAQ Sheet Definitive, possibly. Unbiased? Not on your life. This FAQ is a product of the ever-swooning David Duchovny Estrogen Brigade, and thus contains every minute detail about this "uncommonly gifted actor" as par t of the DDEB's mission "to serve David." This FAQ is full of the answers to such burning questions as "Does David beliwe in UFO's?" (No) and the breed of his dog Blue (mixed Border Collie).

Gillian Anderson Testosterone Brigade They're the second in a long line of X-Philes naming themselves after body secretions, after the original David Duchovny Estrogen Brigade (now down). But they're absolutely sincere in their love for Gillian Anderson , as this page shows. photo gallery, a sound page, and links are what this private e-mail club has to offer, as well as a justification that Gillian is "not another bimbo chasing criminals in high heels." This of course begs the question: Does she ask them to take off their shoes first?

Mitch Pileggi Estrogen Brigade A must-see for those who eschew the overexposed stars and prefer instead the quiet, often mysterious A.D. Skinner. Fan fiction, an FAQ, a mailing list, chat transcripts and much, much more can be found here.

The X-Files Episode Guide This is the ultimate amateur episode guide, referenced by everyone and written by super-fan Cliff Chen. I t's in unattractive ASCII format, but for the detailed dirt (including an FAQ and lots of miscellaneous resources and information) it can't be missed. When you get bored reading the summaries in English, you can finish the rest in Finnish. If you ever f ind an X-Files contest that requires answers in Finno-Ugric, you know where to go.

alt.binaries.x-files Fans never seem to get enough of Dana and Spooky, and this newsgroup provides them in spades. Plu s, there seems to be a genuine underground trade in dubious pics of Gillian Anderson naked and performing various lewd acts. They don't even look like her! Posters to this newsgroup also provide sounds, screensavers, and off-topic questions. It's a grab bag.
