Overview

Always awkward in her 5’10 frame, Melanie Reeves finds her saving grace through basketball. Not only is she the varsity team captain, she’s the pride of Coach Thompson, who holds the keys to a college scholarship. Melanie has also found 'courtly' love with Will, Coach T's handsome, ball-playing son. When Melanie is on the court, everything is perfect....until she is forced to face an opponent who doesn't play by the rules.

Jordan Solano's power lies in her beauty and sex appeal. Never afraid of breaking the rules, she engages in a scandalous flirtation with the school's married basketball coach. But the flirtation quickly turns into accusation, and Coach T's job and reputation are placed in jeopardy after Jordan charges him with rape. Jordan's own reputation has the school administration unwilling to believe her. That is, until she makes a startling claim - she's not the only victim.

Suddenly, all eyes are on Melanie, and it isn't for her amazing free-throws. A man's job, a girl's reputation, and her boyfriend's entire world now rest in Melanie's hands. She has to decide: keep her secrets and protect her future, or put an end to the lies...and lose everything.

Nets and Lies by Katie Ashley, was an incredibly heart-wrenching

Nets and Lies by Katie Ashley, was an incredibly heart-wrenching journey from start to finish. Her writing was impeccable in its descriptive prose, detail and sensitivity. When the subject matter of a book is teenage rape, it would be preferable to skip it and move to a lighter book. However, Nets and Lies was more about hope, fresh starts, forgiveness and the strength found in solid friendship and love.
Two high school girls, the all-round high achiever and golden girl, Melanie Reeves, and the promiscuous trouble maker Jordan Solano, had their lives irrevocably changed by the detestable conduct of their teacher, Coach T. What happened when one wanted to hide the truth from the world to protect her family and boyfriend, and the other, in anger, falsified claims of rape, was devastating to all involved. The drama, the pain, the desolation and humiliation for both girls was captured so clearly, and so convincingly, that it was impossible not to be moved to tears throughout.
Yet, it was the tale of new beginnings, of hope and truth, that was probably the focal point of this masterpiece. Both Melanie and Jordan fought the consequences of their actions, both endured the aching pain of betrayal, and both blossomed under the comforting arms of emotional love and security. Both found hope for their future, once darkened by atrocity.
The supporting cast were written well, with just the right amount of input to assist the storyline and help build character identities. You will probably fall in love with both Will and Nick, and hope for their HEA's as well. I did. What amazing young men.
The ending will leave you a little breathless, but extremely thankful for the resolution. It was appropriate that the future for the girls was not wrapped up with neat little bows, like some trite stories can be. Rather, it left you hopeful, that the strengths they had gained through trauma, would provide the armour they needed to make positive decisions for their future.
Katie Ashley is proving herself to be an accomplished and extremely talented author. Nets and Lies was beautifully written, especially given the topic; garnished with gentle humor and will leave you filled with hope rather than anguish. Well done Ms Ashley, well done.
Thank you Katie Ashley for the privilege of receiving a copy of Nets and Lies. No compensation was received for an honest review.

I think we all know or went to that high school where one rumor

I think we all know or went to that high school where one rumor can shake the city to its core. Its makes it worse when sides are taken and truths come out. I found my heart breaking for each character and their "role" in this unraveling situation. I love Katie Ashley and she did a great job of showing the sides of both the physical and emotionally damaged victims making this a great read that I could not put down.

    Katie Ashley is amazing

So I read another book by this author, Music of the Heart, and I thought I would try this one out. I was surprised by where the book went. From the reviews and the synopsis I had an idea of what was going to happen but it still broke my heart.

To see someone who was trusted hurt so many people without any thought to his own family even just was surprising. It was interesting to see how everyone trusting and supporting the character made it more difficult for the rest of the characters.

I did like how the girls both grew and changed through the experience of telling the truth and living with the consequences of what that meant for both of them and everyone in their lives.

I think that if you want a book that will give you insight into how to survive and move on from something tragic and horrible this is a book for you.

    Amazing!!!!! A must read!!!

Loved the storyline, even though it was devastating, but it was an excellent read! Melanie was a very brave girl and Will was just what you will always want in a boyfriend. Jordan and Nick were beautiful together and I'm glad he came in life at the right time!

    Not bad

Pretty good book. You kind of already know whats going to happen. So this book was really all about moving on. No real big twist or anything.
