Destined to become the new benchmark among text/refrence books for neuroradiology, this book is unique in its comprehensive coverage of all imaging modalities and techniques used in modern imaging of the nervous system, head, neck, and spine:from MR (including up-to-the-minute developments in fast MR, MRA, and FLAIR) to CT, ultrasonography, angiography, plain film and myelography. The physical principles that underlie modern CT and MR imaging are discussed, including the physical basics of MR and CT, MR and CT contrast agents and their applications, hardware and safety issues, image acquisition and artifacts and more.

Editorial Reviews

Ana Cajade-Law
This book is an overview of the physics of CT and MRI, as well as the techniques of myelography. A broad range of topics are included: brain and skull; orbits, sinuses and skull base; and spine. Both pediatric and adult imaging are covered and there is even a short overview of pediatric sedation. The editors' aim is to provide information regarding data acquisition and image formation and their application to normal and diseased states. The audience includes residents and fellows, as well as other radiologists. In the first nine chapters there is a discussion of CT and MRI physics and new MRI techniques. They are well written and have well thought out figures. Other chapters include coverage of all aspects of neuroimaging, both adult and pediatric, and ranging from brain to skull base (including TMJ to orbit and spine imaging). The overall quality of images is excellent. Most of the images are of MRI with very few CT images. Most chapters are well written, although there is at least one chapter that contains poor grammar, which makes reading it very awkward. Because of the vast range of topics included in this book, some topics are just briefly discussed or mentioned. As a result, aside from the physics or myelography chapters, I find this book very similar to other texts already in print. It is a good basic book to have, but readers may need to research certain areas for a deeper understanding of topics.
