Editorial Reviews
Miguel Zialcita III
This is a revised edition of a textbook of neurology that first appeared in 1991. The contents have been logically analyzed to approach neurology by signs and symptoms, ancillary procedures and related sciences, and a discussion of the neurologic disease themselves. The purpose is to provide the reader with a multidimensional learning and teaching tool. The authors correctly recognize that neurology can really be quite involved in any and all aspects of clinical medicine. This book is very useful for neurologist and nonneurologist alike. The resulting book adequately meets this objective. This book is targeted for students, residents, and practitioners. Although the authors mention only students and peers in the preface, this book would also be greatly appreciated by practitioners who are not in the field of neurology. The individual contributors represent some of the finest authorities in their respective fields. The illustrations and tables are high quality. Although the authors sought to limit the references, those provided are relevant and useful. The overall appearance is elegant, and the topics are presented with sufficient depth for the neurologist, yet ease of access for the student and nonneurologist. This book is a definite must for any medical science library and certainly a worthwhile acquisition for anyone wishing to have a copy for their own personal reference. From The Critics

Booknews
New edition of a two-volume reference (previous incarnations published in 1991 and 1996) in which 152 neurologists discuss neurological diseases, their causes, and treatments, as well as clinical skills of lesion localization and disease recognition. This version was developed and produced almost entirely using electronic technology and the Internet, and an Internet site provides audio and video tapes for downloading. Fifty-four articles in Volume I (7205-6) present principles of diagnosis and management (approach to common problems, and neurological investigations and related clinical neurosciences). The 32 articles in Volume II are arranged in categories of neurological disorders such as complications of systemic disease, vascular diseases of the nervous system, tumors of the central nervous system, infections, effects of toxins and physical agents, the dementias, etc. Edited by Bradley (neurology, U. of Miami School of Medicine and chief of neurology, Jackson Memorial Hospital), Robert B. Daroff (University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Case Western Reserve U. School of Medicine), Gerald M. Fenichel (neurology and pediatrics, Vanderbilt U., and Vanderbilt Hospital), and the now deceased C. David Marsden (neurology, The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London).
