Editorial Reviews

Ryan Kaplan
This is primarily a study aid, written in a question/answer format. It is designed to improve performance on neurology board and in-service examinations. This is an excellent way to rapidly assimilate key points in neurology (e.g., the "pearls"). This is something every beginning resident needs. Each chapter is brief, highly readable, and to the point. There is no extraneous verbiage to wade through, and no superfluous details to slow the reader down. The intended audience is neurology residents. The book is divided into 26 chapters, and readers can quickly read through the questions and answers to get a feel for the core information central to any neurologic subspecialty. Residents will find this particularly useful as they progress through their training. For example, before starting my pediatric rotation, I read the appropriate chapter in "Pearls." This helped greatly in establishing a foundation upon which to build with subsequent, more in depth, readings. It also was useful in preparing me for topics and questions that attendings would bring up in clinic and on rounds. I certainly hope this book helps achieve high board scores. If it doesn't, I still will not be disappointed, for the time invested in reading and reviewing it undoubtedly helped solidify the essentials of neurology. All residents should have this book from day one of their training.
