Editorial Reviews

Ce Wang
This book uses interesting questions and answers to cover most of issues encountered in neurology rounds and practice. It is especially useful for residents and students. It provides a systemic and succinct review for students and residents for study in neurology, from basic neuroscience to the clinical setting. This objective is definitely worthy, and has been met. According to the editor, the audience is students and residents; I feel it is appropriate for general practitioners as well. The editor is a credible authority in the subject matter. This book covers the most common issues encountered in neurology, especially in rounds. Useful, updated basic neuroscience is also provided. The best feature of this book is that it uses interesting questions and excellent answers to cover the most interesting and important issues in neurology rounds. Unique features include updated neuroscience and neurology trivia. The only shortcoming is the quality of some pictures. I recommend that these may be improved in the future. This user-friendly, pocket size neurology book includes interesting questions and excellent answers. It is especially good for students and residents to use at the bedside and on rounds. It is also beneficial for other practitioners who may encounter neurological problems in practice, and for resident in-service exams.
From The Critics
Reviewer: Trupti Gokani, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This is an excellent addition to the neurology book literature. The author divides the book into systems, then formats the information into a question-answer style. Comprehensive tables and illustrations make the review much more meaningful.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an overview of the relevant information in neurology, mainly for preparation for rounds, exams, and rotations. The objectives are worthy and this book is definitely needed to help in preparation for exams. It is also quite user friendly and provides a quick review of various topics. The author's objectives are well met.
Audience: The audience for this book, according to the author, ranges from medical students to attendings. In my judgment, the book is better suited for residents to attendings due to the vast amount of information presented. The author is a credible authority.
Features: The book basically covers the key topics in neurology. Topics ranging from the function of the cerebellum to neuro-oncology are discussed. The best sections are the ones covering peripheral neuropathy and seizures/epilepsy. The book's unique feature is the Socratic approach, which is very helpful in the learning process.
Assessment: This is an important addition to the literature currently available in neurology. The question format approach to presenting information allows the book to be more readable and enjoyable. It also encourages the reader to think actively while reading. Since our field continues growing rapidly, it is important to keep up with the recent trends. The author is well justified to replace the previous edition of this book.
A collection of questions commonly encountered in an academic institution on teaching rounds for medical students. The 30 chapters include brainstem disease, basal ganglia and movement disorders, dementia, vascular disease, infectious diseases, pediatric neurology, and electroencephalography. The third edition adds new questions, deletes old ones, and updates many answers. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
