Overview

Significant new insights and research findings about brain-behavior relationships, neurological disorders, neurodiagnostic issues, and neuropsychological assessment procedures are incorporated into the third edition of Neuropsychological Assessment. Well-known as the "bible" in its field, this book now contains more than double the number of references than appeared in the previous edition, most published since 1983. The first eight chapters provide the knowledge base necessary for an understanding of the principles and practice of a patient-oriented, personalized, hypothesis-testing approach to neuropsychological assessment. The 12 chapters in the second section contain nearly all of the tests and assessment techniques covered in the previous editions plus many additional ones, including newly developed neuropsychological tests, tests from other branches of psychology, research techniques that have only recently been introduced into clinical neuropsychology, tests originating in Europe and elsewhere, and a few measures - as yet untried by neuropsychology - that appear to be potentially useful for neuropsychological purposes. Thus, the third edition of Neuropsychological Assessment maintains its multipurpose functions as an authoritative textbook, reference work, and practitioner's manual. In a reorganization designed to meet current thinking and assessment procedures, tests originally offered in prepackaged batteries are now presented within their appropriate functional domains. For example, individual memory tests - whether developed singly or for use in a commercial battery - are discussed in the chapter on memory tests, while a new chapter deals with memory batteries, questionnaires, and inventories. A separate chapter reviews prepackaged and commercial test batteries used for general-purpose neuropsychological assessment, but the individual tests from these batteries are treated elsewhere according to the salient functions they examine. "...the authoritative reference and practitioner's manual... this edition incorporates new research on brain-behavior relationships, neurological disorders, neurodiagnostic issues, assessment procedures, & newly developed neuropsych tests."

Neuropsychological Assessment (Fourth Edition) represents a monumental achievement by the authors and remains the most important text on clinical neuropsychological assessment. No practitioner or researcher should be without it." —ACNR

"...the book is a veritable graduate course in the field of psychological assessment, and readers will find information chronicling the most effective ways psychologists have to evaluate and examine the inner workings of the brain." —The Electric Review
