Each chapter is broken down into appropriate issues, which makes it easy to use each individually. Furthermore, each chapter is anchored by a case study to serve as a summary and example. This book as a whole is as a good overview of the neuropsychological issues in the mild traumatic brain injury population.
Purpose: This book is intended to be an integrated guide to dealing with both cognitive and emotional sequelae in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. This condition is complex, multifaceted, underdiagnosed, and under-treated. Therefore this book is very much needed, and should serve to increase awareness of neuropsychological issues in the mild traumatic brain injury population. With this general overview of the neuropsychological issues seen in mild traumatic injury patients, the editors meet their objectives.
Audience: This book is intended for use by rehabilitation professionals including neurologists, psychologists, counselors, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
Features: This book is an overview of the cognitive and emotional sequelae following mild traumatic brain injury. The format lends itself to easy flow from chapter to chapter. The use of a case study at the end of each chapter serves to summarize and further illustrate the points of each chapter.
Assessment: There are a number of areas which could be expanded upon, including driving rehabilitation, family issues/family dynamics post injury, alcohol abuse after traumatic brain injury, divorce rate, medical complications, and issues with and the use of pharmaceutical intervention. The last point is very important as medications can affect neuropsychological recovery and treatment. The editors of this book provide a good overview of a very complicated topic. The format makes it easy to read and is appropriate for the intended broad audience.
