Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This book is primarily a case book of unknowns, many of which are listed together in an attempt to make the reader formulate a differential diagnosis. It does not mirror the typical text-based differential diagnoses text books, but rather provides a collection of imaging cases with similar features, and then provides a differential diagnosis for those findings...Overall, the selection of cases is good and by addressing a wide spectrum of neuroradiology including paediatrics, spinal imaging and head and neck imaging, it does cover most of the commonest conditions that would be seen...It is well written book, which is nicely laid out and the image quality is high in all sections."

"This impressive work offers a unique approach to the presentation of unknown cases. Readers are presented with a large of number of high-quality, unknown cases and challenged to differentiate disease entities with similar imaging findings. The unknown cases are followed by concise expert insight into differentiating disease entities, using imaging findings and corollary data. The unique approach of this book is sure to have wide appeal." Scott Forseen, M.D., M.S. (Medical College of Georgia) Doody Review!

Description: Using an interesting format, this book on image interpretation presents cases as unknowns and leads readers through comprehensive discussions of differentiating lesions with similar imaging appearances.
Purpose: The premise is that one of the most effective techniques for learning image interpretation is through the presentation of unknown cases. The central theme of this book is the presentation of multiple cases with similar imaging findings as unknowns, with the subsequent discussion focused on learning how to differentiate these cases from one another. The case discussions effectively guide readers through the subtleties of each case and methods of differentiating cases with overlapping imaging appearances. This book offers more detailed discussions than others with similar aims.
Audience: Although primarily designed for residents, fellows, and students, this book can serve as a useful reference for practicing general radiologists as well. The section editors and contributors are well known and well respected members of the neuroradiology community.
Features: The book presents numerous commonly encountered imaging patterns and clinical questions in head and neck, brain, and spine imaging. The great value of this book lies in the concise discussions that follow the presentation of unknown cases, leading readers through the difficult task of differentiating overlapping imaging patterns. The sheer volume of cases also is a strength, introducing readers to a broad spectrum of disease entities. A relative shortcoming is the rather scant coverage of spine imaging.
Assessment: This impressive work offers a unique approach to the presentation of unknown cases. Readers are presented with a large of number of high-quality, unknown cases and challenged to differentiate disease entities with similar imaging findings. The unknown cases are followed by concise expert insight into differentiating disease entities, using imaging findings and corollary data. The unique approach of this book is sure to have wide appeal.
