Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Celso Agner, MD, MS, MSc (Michigan Neurology Partners)
Description: Test-taking strategies in neurosciences are important for students to acquire. Since the field is constantly changing, developing new study materials is desirable and expected. The USMLE national examination is constantly modified, and this book has been updated since its last edition in 2005 to face the current challenges medical students are encountering.
Purpose: The purpose of this book is to provide enough evidence-based basic neuroscience to help students understand the different facets of the field.
Audience: Medical students, neurology and neurosurgery residents, and clinicians who want to update their knowledge in neuroscience are the main audience for this book.
Features: The book is divided into two main parts: an introduction to high-yield aspects of neuroscience and multiple smaller sections with questions and answers. The main focus is to address not only the right but also the wrong answers and explain to students the reasons why a specific option is correct. Added to other study methods, this significantly improves one's abilities to score higher on standardized tests in neuroscience.
Assessment: This is a classic review book for the USMLE Part I and is a useful addition to general medical libraries.
