Overview

Leah Morgan was done with men. After barely surviving a horrendous childhood, and a boyfriend who bailed when things got rough, Leah had given up on love. Then she met him, Hollywood’s new golden boy who suddenly had eyes only for her. She tried to convince herself that one night couldn’t hurt, but after six months, the memories of his mesmerizing gaze and searing touch still invaded her every thought.

Declan James had just one rule when it came to women. Keep it simple, and never linger. That all changed the moment he met Leah. Even across a crowded bar, he could tell she was different. Sweet, with just the right amount of sass, she made him break his golden rule and now he couldn’t walk away.

When casual becomes anything but, and emotions run deep, will Leah and Declan fight their fears, or let old insecurities tear them apart? When Declan’s past comes roaring back in a way neither of them could have expected, will they stand united or be torn apart by the challenges that lie ahead?

It was only supposed to be one night, but only forever will do.

The second novel in the Ready series. Each novel can be read as a standalone.

I was honored to be a beta reader for this book.

This book is fanfreakingtastic-I absolutely love it. Like wanna marry it and have happy romance book babies.

Love Declan. Love Leah.  Love their banter, passion and how they constantly call each other on their bulls@$%.  They are real-even in their very unreal background.  So many times they could have given up, run away and they didn’t!  They talked, worked thru their fear…TOGETHER.  So many beautiful moments-and memories that Declan gave to Leah.

And I wish with all of my heart that I had a Finnegan family.  They are wonderful.

Clare and Leah’s friendship. Beautiful. And their way with each other!

    Connor….and Maddie :)

Garrett is going to break my heart.

This book- I truly loved this book.  No crazy triangles, just lots of messy life that together they made it through.  A mature and beautifully written love story. A must read and strong follow up to J.L.’s debut novel When You’re Ready.

May sound like a formulaic romance novel, but it's a whole new spin on it

Leah Morgan isn’t interested in love. She didn’t have it while she was growing up, and the love she found as an adult didn’t last. Still, she leads a well-rounded life, with a rewarding career, some volunteer work, and friends that could just as easily be called family. Her losses haven’t made her bitter, though; they’ve made her stronger, more self-reliant, and eager to help anywhere she’s needed. Love is the last thing on her mind when she meets movie star Declan James, but that certainly won’t keep her from enjoying him.

Declan James hasn’t had a lasting relationship since his college girlfriend decided that his pursuit of Hollywood career wasn’t the life for her. His rise to fame doesn’t make relationships easy anyhow, so it’s a good thing he doesn’t want one. There are plenty of women willing to warm his bed for the night without insinuating themselves into his life. But when he can’t get one of them out of his head, his selfish & solitary life is in for a big change.

    The Verdict...
Never Been Ready accomplishes what so many other books strive for and miss. Normally, when I pick up a book about two people who don’t want or really believe in fairy tale endings, the characters are so bitter and stubborn about it that every step forward is a fight. It gets old after a while, and there’s always a chance that I’ll tire of their prideful distance and begin to dislike them for whatever cruel avoidance tactics they use. Not so with Leah and Deslan. At all.

First, they’re both entirely likable from the get-go. Sure, they aren’t really looking for love, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been putting up walls for the last century. Leah is kind and strong and fun in spite of her rough childhood; it’s really impossible not to love her. And Deslan may be a bit on the cocksure side, but he’s not a bad guy, not even close. Their initial attraction, their sort-of-but-not-really-dating, their sense of wonder mixed with fear when they begin to realize they’re developing feelings for each other… Well, it all makes for a great read.

Likewise, the avoidance of the standard Hollywood drama was quite refreshing. Declan’s a famous movie star, so it would have been easy to screw with the story in the way of tabloid headlines, paparazzi trying to get a reaction, some snotty costar manipulating and conniving. But while these bits may have been touched upon, they didn’t take over the plot. A few chapters from Declan’s point of view also gave good insight into his character, revealing his own insecurities, and that went a long way toward creating more than just the standard two-dimensional male lead.

Oh, and that plot twist? I suspected it for about five seconds, but the story continued without so much as a hint of it for so long that I started to think my suspicions were little more than a conditioned reaction. It’s not often that stories surprise me with a sudden twist like this one did, and that just made it all the more fun. Unfortunately, I haven’t touched the series other than this one book, but that’s something I’m sure I’ll have to change. Never Been Ready may sound like a formulaic romance novel, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

    WONDERFUL

This book was fantastic, wonderful and whatever other words you want to use. It showed how people can try and fight but what is meant to be will be. The way the story started I figured the beginning (don't want to give anything away!) would play into it but I NEVER thought in the way it did. I laughed, cried, got angry and in the end cried again but they were happy tears...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES and this authors writings!!!

Love this series.  Didn't think J.L. Berg could possibly top "When You're Ready" but I think she actually did.  This book can be read as a stand alone but I would suggest reading "When You're Ready" first.  It gives you a little background on Declan and Leah.  This book delves deep into their pasts and makes you understand their fear of committing to another person.  The sexy banter between Declan and Leah had me laughing like a fool at times.

I cried, I cried both happy and sad tears. J L Berg writes with such emotion. There is so much I would love to say but I would give things away.  Just know this story between Leah and Declan is heart wrenching, both in sad and happy ways, but even the sad is happy.  You will definitely have to read this series, If you have a heart it will get you too.

¿What's past is prologue.¿ ¿ William Shakespeare, The Tempest

“What's past is prologue.” – William Shakespeare, The Tempest

A prologue that had Declan and Leah get them embroiled in their own tempest of feelings and emotions.

The second book in the “Ready Series” from J.L.Berg is a whirlwind story of the arrogant Declan, and the sassy Leah. Declan, the cocky actor/director/producer finally meets his match in the spitfire of a redhead and a darling nurse, Leah.

I have read J.L.Berg’s first book “When You Are Ready” and totally loved it. She set her standards high and sure enough her second book was a great combination of love tested, feelings explored, past revisited and went beyond my expectations. If her first book was a calm read as Logan and Clare journeyed into their happily ever after, “Never Been Ready” is a vortex of fast paced, roller coaster ride for Declan and Leah.

Several times during the story, I caught myself catching my breath just so I can catch up with the feelings between Declan and Leah. The story was tastefully narrated and I so loved the humor between these two. The tongue in cheek teasing between Declan and Leah was refreshing and had me chuckling a lot.

Dialogue between best friends Leah and Clare tug at your heartstrings and so does the self-talk Declan has for staying away from Logan. As Leah tries to overcome her hurtful past that spills into her present, and Declan tries to come to terms with his past that blows up in his present face, “Never Been Ready” is one book not to be missed.

Thanks Jennifer for giving me an opportunity to read such a lovely story and I hope to be ready for your next installment ¿.

Forever would only do....I was given an ARC of Never Been Ready

Forever would only do....I was given an ARC of Never Been Ready for any Honest Review by the author. Thank you so much J.L. Berg.

The story of one man and one woman who will touch you in so many ways. Hold on tight because this emotional, tear-jerking story with a life altering change will blow you away.

On the night Declan James meets Leah Morgan, him and his friend Logan Matthews, enter a bar. They are trying to keep a low profile because Declan is a Hollywood film star and he really doesn't want to be seen. Logan see's his girlfriend Clare with Leah and they head over to them. Declan is overwhelmed with Leah's beauty. One thing leads to another and now after six months he can't get her out of his head.

When Declan returns to Richmond to direct and be in a film, his first stop is to go see Leah. He thinks maybe he'll see her and get her out of his system. This is not going to happen the way he planned it. Leah kicks him out of her place. If anything happens it will be on her terms.

When temporary turns out to be more, are they ready? Leah is dealing with some demons and does not let anyone in. When Declan finds out, he does anything to help and protect her. What will happen? Be prepared because you will love it and get ready, there are so many wonderful moments with Clare, Logan and Maddie (from When You're Ready).

Never Been Ready is a must read, very spicy book. With lines like, "It was only supposed to be one night, but with Leah in my arms...only forever would do"....."She was my world, my beginning and end, and she had shown me everything I never thought I wanted." how can it not be? J.L. Berg has done it again. If you thought When You're Ready was an emotional read, wait until you read this one.

Review: Ready #2: Never Been Ready

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Never Been Ready by J.L. Berg is the second book in her Ready series. Having not read the first book I did not feel the lack in the story at all.

Leah Morgan is fed up with guys and with being downtrodden. She is done, but then she meets Declan. He's into her and she decides to let him in - For One Night!!! Except she can't stop thinking about him and it's months later.

Declan is in the same boat. He has no desire to settle down or even revisit the same hook-up. When he sees Leah, it's different. Things aren't simple with her. He is with her and it confirms just how special she is to him!

Both characters are well developed, intense, and have dark pasts and secrets that they want to forget. As life goes though, things never stay buried or quiet. The only thing now is to see if they can survive the ugliness of their pasts and stay rock solid, together.

I love when a bad-boy gets sweet on "the one" and when the girl refuses to take any crap from him. My first book by this author but definitely NOT my last!
