Tedy gives you something to believe in. Whether we're winning or losing, he holds his head high, and he knows himself and handles himself so well, others can't help but follow him. The way he practices and plays forces you to become a better teammate; the way he demands hustle and toughness forces you to become a better leader; and the way he carries himself inspires you to become a better person. This made his return to playing on October 30 against Buffalo all the more electrifying. The stadium was louder that night than the nights we had raised our Super Bowl banners. Our captain, our leader, our inspiration was back on the field doing what he loved to do. Tedy had spent months rehabbing, had countless doctor visits, and had undergone hundreds of tests trying to play again. Just eight months after our victory in Super Bowl XXXIX, here we were celebrating a much bigger victory on our home field. Sure it was great to win the game, but that night we were celebrating Tedy's return as he showed us teammates, fans, family, and friends what it takes to become victorious in life.

You might be coming to this book as a fan of Tedy's football skills and, don't get me wrong, gaining the insights of one of the best defenders in Patriots history is worth the price of admission, but that's just part of the story. There are a lot of reasons to look up to him, and I promise you will finish this book with an admiration for him on a much deeper level."
—Tom Brady (from the Foreword)

Publishers Weekly

Ten days after helping the New England Patriots win the 2005 Super Bowl, 31-year-old middle linebacker Bruschi suffered a debilitating stroke that left his future uncertain. Initially he planned to retire, but as he began to recover, a process that included surgery to repair the hole in his heart that precipitated the stroke, the lure of football beckoned. Bruschi learned much about stroke from doctors who treated him and cleared him to play again. After serious disagreement with his wife, he won her support for his return to the game only eight and a half months after suffering the stroke. His comeback initially met with much skepticism from the media and fans alike, but Bruschi writes that he was determined to overcome the obstacles thrown up by those ignorant of strokes. He also found a new audience of fans: stroke survivors across the country, many who wrote him letters in support. Bruschi, who went on to play the 2005 and 2006 seasons, is planning to be in the lineup this season as well and is now a spokesman for the American Stroke Association. His story is a compelling and convincing one that will appeal to both football fans and those affected by strokes. (Sept.)

Tedy Bruschi is an idol to all.

Tedy Bruschi with Michael Holley: Never Give Up: My Stroke, My Recovery, and My Return to the NFL, is a very heart wrenching book. Tedy Bruschi is married to Heidi and has 2 wonderful boys, Tedy Jr. (TJ) and Rex. Tedy grew up in San Francisco, and lived there till he was 13. His parents got divorced when he was 5. He has 2 siblings; Tony, which is 3 years older then Tedy, and Natalia, which is the youngest of the 2. Tedy got drafted to the New England Patriots in the 1996 draft. He's on a great team, their mantra is "Never sell each other out", he has been on the New England Patriots and won 3 super bowls with them. After winning the third super bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tedy gets to play in the Pro Bowl. Couple days after the Pro Bowl Tedy is starting to feel quite weird and not himself, he woke up with a headache that turned in to a stroke. February 15, 2005 Tedy describes that day as "one of the longest days of 2005." Tedy has had a hole in his heart since he was born, which had caused the stroke. After spending 3 days in the hospital doing tests and getting blood taken, he was finally released. He knew that he would not be able to play football ever again so he decided to retire. He took a job for the patriots, but he keeps changing his mind about everything. Tedy doesn't know what to do anymore. After throwing the first pitch at the Red Sox game, he gets surgery on a PFO(hole in the heart). He talks to his brother Tony, and Tony is the one that tells him that he should play again and that he thinks Tedy can. What should Tedy do, risk his health and do what he loves, or spend time with his family, take the job for the Patriots and stay healthy? What does Tedy decide to do? This book inspired me that you can do anything if you have the right support from family and friends. I recommend this book to everyone, no matter if your a football lover or just like to read.

    Inspirational

This book is a biography about New England Patriot Tedy Bruschi, and his devastating tragedy. Tedy Bruschi is a star linebacker for a Superbowl winning NFL football team .The title says everything about this book,"Never Give Up," thats just what Tedy does. Tedy Bruschi has a deadly obstacle placed before his eyes, and is taken from his football career. Just after winning a Superbowl Tedy experiences a stroke, but is lucky some people do not ever survive a stroke. What is Tedy supposed to do in this situation with seems to be no way out? Is he to lose all hope, and give up? Or is he to find a ray of light to climb out of this dark, and gloomy situation. This book is very inspirational, and can help steer you down the right path. This book personally satiated my requirements of an outstanding book. You can feel the pain that Tedy is feeling, and the emotion attached by this tragic situation.Do you want to know Tedy Bruschi ever gets to play again, or finds an alternative career path? Well then read this book its is a guaranteed inspirational experience, and see just what it is that Tedy Bruschi achieves when he does not give up.

NEVER GIVE UP IS AN INSPIRING MEMOIR AND A GREAT READ!

Teddy Brushi, 245 pound inside linebacker for the Patriots has just been invited to the Pro Bowl. After the game he and his teammates come out with a win. Yet, as a week or so pass the Bruschi family found that in early February they had to face an even bigger challenge¿ Teddy Bruschi, 245 pound linebacker was having a stroke, ¿I think I slept on it wrong¿ Teddy said to the reaction of numbness in his left side which was caused by the stroke that night. Never Give Up is a powerful and inspiring book, that gives you hope. It states, ¿If the worst you have to do is to wake up early¿ or you have a cut or a scrape, this book makes you feel lucky even if you break a bone. Imagine playing your favorite sport or activity, and being really good and successful at it, and after a great win, you go home a week later and at 2:00 AM your entire left side of your body falls ¿asleep¿! Then 4-5 hours later, your in a hospital being told you¿ve just had a stroke because of a hole in your heart called a PFO that has been there since you¿ve been born. Then, the doctors tell you that they will have to do surgery and put a metal circular plate into your heart to cover the hole. Would you think that you would ever be able to play football again? After going through one of the hardest times of his life, Teddy starts his rehab not expecting to go back to the Patriots 'which he ¿retired¿ from a few months earlier', He¿d prefer to spend more time with his family. However, as his health and his vision 'which was blurry' starts to improve, his brother Tony tells him he thinks he can play again, what should he do? Never Give Up is an inspiring story that makes you want to keep reading until the end. For me it¿s hard to get into a book, but for once in my life I actually was able to get into a book the second I turned the first page. Truly if your looking for a good memoir then you have to put Never Give Up on your list it will teach you about strokes, encourage you to try harder, and it will make you realize things could be a whole lot worse. Now that you know about Never Give Up I¿d recommend that if anyone that needs a good read for school or book group or just anything, this book will really show you its not always fair out in this world. This book has a great voice, is moving, and the ending will definitely blow you away. I would, hands down, give this book five stars.

A story of the exhilaration of being a professional football player

Never give up by Tedy Bruschi is awesome memoir about the struggles of his stroke and the courageousness of his recovery. His story also tells about his family and how the stroke affected his kids, wife and his NFL team. Tedy Bruschi is 33 years old and in his 12th season in the NFL. His seasons have all been with the Patriots. He grew up in San Francisco and moved to Arizona, his dad left him when he was a kid and his mom eventually remarried. He met Heidi, his wife in collage at the University of Arizona. He was drafted by the New England Patriots and moved just out side of Foxbourgh Mass where the patriots play in Gillett stadium. Three years ago when he was 30 he had a stroke and later returned to the NFL. He now has wrote a book about his experience in Never Give Up. I think it is amazing that someone like Tedy can have a stroke when he is 30 years old and come back to full health and play in the NFL. Tedy wrote this book to show that you to can do almost anything if you put your mind to it and he definitely shares that and more, in this story. It is a great book!!!

    Great reading

Read this book in less than 2 days, just couldn't put it down. What fire and determination this man had and still has. It is a great lesson pertaining to everyday life. If you want something bad enough you can do it, and Teddy proved it. Thanks for the 'positive', I will use this lesson in my own life. It was also fun to read about his earlier days, meeting his wife, and early years with the Patriots. I recommend this book for good 'quick' reading.

    He Didn't Give Up

As a relative of a stroke victim, I have expeienced many of the obstacles and decisions from the other point of view, as a care giver. This book is an inspiration and I highly recommend it. People who know people who have a stroke can learn from reading what others have to say, and learning from what they do. Another book I read recently was called Final Stroke. Although it was fiction the author claimed to have also been a care giver. In this one a detective, rather than an athlete, has had a stroke.

    Title is Right On

If your looking for a lot of football, this isn't the book. It is more the detail of Tedy's stroke and his indecision on whether to return to football or not. We can all learn from the book, concerning evaluating our lives and our life's path whether we are healthy or not.

    Tedy Bruschi

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is truly an inspirational story not only for stroke survivors, but for everyone. Somehow I can find a relation with experiences in my own life to what occurs in the great Tedy Bruschi¿s life. It inspires all people by showing that as humans we all are going to face bumps in the road and have to find ways in which we overcome them. Tedy Bruschi was able to overcome his obstacles of a stroke by a great team of doctors, family support, fan support, and his own will to get better. It wasn¿t an easy ride to make his ¿miracle return¿ to the NFL, and somehow Tedy has made a full recovery. This is a great book that will appeal to all types of people football fans, stroke survivors, or your everyday reader. Tedy Bruschi is a true New England icon. He is one of the most popular players in Patriots¿ history. Throughout his 11 year career here in New England, he has played in the Super Bowl four times, three of which were victorious. After reading his book, Never Give Up, I highly recommend anyone to read it. It¿s not everyday you get to hear about a current athlete having health problems. It makes the professionals seem less super-hero and more human-like. Just hearing the story of an NFL great someone that is so fierce on the field, struggle to recover is truly amazing. In the short amount of time that Tedy had missed, he has made a great recovery. I hope for the best in the future for him and his family and his NFL career. Go Patriots!
