Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

In this standalone sequel to The Lying Game series launch, Emma Mercer continues her search for her identical twin sister's killer. The hunt continues to yield new clues, but with every move, this youthful stand-in detective knows that as she searches for the killer, he or she is watching her every move, waiting for the right moment to end it all. A series with a beguiling romantic subplot; now in trade paperback and NOOK Book. (P.S. The ABC Family show The Lying Game, which was recently renewed for a second season, was inspired by this series.)

Good book (the tv series so screwed up this series!)

If you have read the first book then you know Emma has her hands full playing the part of Sutton, her dead twin. The Killer is out their amongst them and a cloud of doubt is very big in regards to if your friends hand anything to do with it. All she know is that she must continue to play Sutton, and Ethan is her only friend who knows that she is not Sutton.

In Never Have I Ever, she starts piecing together more of Sutton's life and what she was doing around the time of her death. As she checks off her list of suspects, mainly her friends. She thinks she knows who the killer/s might be and sets out to try and figure out a way to call them out.

Danger lurks in every corner though as Emma, has a few mishaps and always feels like someone is watching her. Ethan and Emma grows closer, but doesn't really want to get involved with a guy while all of this is looming over her.

Gabby and Lili really want to be a part of The Lying Game Club and will go at great lengths to prove they can be just as evil as the rest of the clique. Emma is really suspicious of the twitter twins motives when it comes to a lot of things and doesn't trust them.

As Sutton's ghost starts regaining bits and pieces of her memories we get to put more of the puzzle together on what happened at the train tracks, etc.

    ---
The Lying Game continues in Never Have I Ever, and I really enjoyed the book. I have never really been one for these types of books, but I am really curious to know who killed Sutton. I am not really a fan of long drawn out series so I really hope The Lying Game is not like Pretty Little Liars, because I don't know if I will last that long. I mean I like what I am reading, but I am ready to find the killer.

Sara Shepard does a great job of putting together a great group of characters and letting you have little bits of insight into them as Emma tries to figure it all out. The only thing that I don't really like is how one moment it can be Emma who is doing the talking or thinking, and then the next moment it could be Sutton's ghost doing the thinking. Sometimes that got a little confusing, and though I got use to it I just really didn't like that style of writing.

Even though I have not read the Pretty Little Liar's series I am beginning to think that Sara Shepard is the queen of cliffhanger endings. I am sure she does the same thing with the other series..lol. As you all well know I really hate cliffhanger endings and I almost wanted to through my kindle across the room! Over all I did enjoy the book and can't wait to find out what happens in the third book, Two Truths and a Lie, it comes on Feb. 7th, 2012. Not a real long wait but long enough!

If you like Pretty Little Liars I think you would enjoy The Lying Game series and suggest you go pick it up now! :)

    READ IT NOW

These books are 1,000% better than the t.v. series. In fact i read the first book and then started watching the t.v. series and the t.v. version just made me mad so i prefer not to watch it anymore. These books are terrific! Nothing is what it seems to be! I would stay up in the early morning/late night just to read these books. I love love LOVE these books. They are the best books ever.. just saying..

Never Have I Ever... Read a Better Mystery

[]In this follow up from The Lying Game, Emma Paxton will have to continue in this immense journey to uncover who killed her recently discovered twin sister, Sutton- a spunky girl whose actions in her lifetime are already an obstacle in Emma's path. As Emma was placed into Sutton's life, she learns more about the Lying Game, and interesting way of playing by pranking others that are involved in it. But Emma will find that Sutton has done some cruel things to a few of her closest friends-who could have gotten revenge. Emma is reluctant to trust anyone, and we are, too. []

[] A must read for mystery lovers and those who love Pretty Little Liars []

Great sophomore effort in the series...

I am not the target demographic for YA books, yet I found the book very enjoyable. I read the first book in the series on a whim, and was immediately drawn into the story of the twins. The underlying mystery that infuses ordinary teenage life is very reminiscent of Pretty Little Liars, but this series is definitely not an imitation of PLL. Each book contains a story arc that gets resolved by the end, but Shepard leaves enough unanswered questions to keep you anxiously waiting for the next book. I particularly liked the development of Emma's various relationships with the main characters in this book. I will definitely read book #3.

Great for lovers of Pretty Little Liars!

Much like the first, Never Have I Ever (yes, named after the popular sleepover game!)is told from the perspective of Sutton Mercer. Or, the ghost of Sutton Mercer, as she follows around the long-lost identical twin sister Emma who she never knew she had.

What I liked: Okay, first of all, Sara Shepard's books are like...catnip for me. I'm addicted to them. 1) The characters (save for Emma who walks around wondering if these people can actually be real) are all unapologetically shallow and mean, and I love them for it. How can you not appreciate an author who creates characters like that and just expects her readers to like them? 2) The mystery. Before the series is over, I have a feeling every single person will be suspected of Sutton's murder. This is similar to Pretty Little Liars in which at one point everyone has been suspected of being "A." But instead of clearing someone with a simple alibi, in NHIE, Miz Shepard has taken it to the very last second to prove someone's innocence or guilt. 3) Ethan and Emma - FINALLY!

What I didn't like: 1) It can get hard at some points to differentiate between Ghost Sutton and Real Emma being Live Sutton. There were a couple of times I'd have to re-read a paragraph or two to make sure I knew who it was that was speaking. 2) Come on, how can no one realize that she's not Sutton? I mean, seriously? Not even any comments about her acting strange!

Overall thoughts: Light and quick read, I finished it in a matter of hours. It's definitely fun and interesting, sparking some lols, some eye-rolls, and a few gasps from me while I was reading. I was really excited about the way it ended, and can't wait for the next book (Two Truths and a Lie) to come out (Feb. 2012)!
