Never Kiss A Stranger

( 1 )

Overview

Laura Golightly expected her trip to Europe would be pretty dull. After all, helping out an elderly writer on a publicity tour isn't exactly a thrill a minute. On the other hand, trying to stop a cat burglar may be a bit too exciting. Especially if it's her heart he's trying to steal!

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In Never Kiss a Stranger, Laura signs on as an assistant to a romance author for a trip to the French Rivera. Then a cat burglar misses his target but steals her heart instead. He's really a tycoon, hunting patent secrets stolen from him. Can he recapture the secrets and win Laura? Then in Jinxed, Kit is R&D director for a toy company, successful but klutzy, especially around her handsome boss. A spark ignites, but he doesn't like women to work-especially mothers. Can they negotiate it romantically and professionally? And in A Prince Needs a Princess, Jack runs a California construction company when unexpected family deaths leave him heir to the throne of a small European kingdom. Clarissa's been sent to fetch him, but he can't forget how the king disowned his father for emigrating and marrying an American showgirl. Can Clarissa help mend the past? These are among some 250 Japanese manga counterparts to Harlequin romance novels, now selected for publication in English. The result is American shojo light, yet the books resemble shojo only art-wise and would not appeal to traditional shojo fans. Viewed as just plain comics, all three titles feature characterizations and art that actually sell the story better. Brief with predictably happy endings, they would likely appeal to teens as gateways to longer and more complex novels. Buy several and see how they circulate. Rated age 12+.-M.C. cute tale that targets twelve to thirteen years old girls

Popular but lonely romance writer Mamie Pendergast and her assistant Laura Golightly are in Nice, France where the author plans to write her next book. However, due to a hotel mix-up, the room she always uses has been given to a Mr. Ivan Actopal leaving an irate Mamie next door. Not long afterward Laura catches a thief wearing a mask in their room. She goes into protective mode, but the felon leaves. The next night at a reception, Mamie introduces Laura to her friend Caesar Labertov, CEO and chief designer of Aeromed Airplane manufacturing. Laura recognizes him from his eyes and voice as the thief who took nothing except a kiss. Laura and Caesar are attracted to one another and she shows her intelligence when she realizes he was seeking something from Actopal not Mamie. He explains that someone stole a CD with design data for the Churchill plane model and sold it to Actopal who plans to sell it to Caesar¿s rival Cyrus. As Laura and Caesar fall in love, she not only trusts him she risks her life to try to get back the CD. --- This is a cute tale that targets twelve to thirteen years old girls as Manga art is combined with a fun wholesome romantic suspense with less of a message than the previous Harlequin Pink tales contain. The art and text of this graphic book is excellent though readers will have to adjust to the right to left story line even with an instruction page included. As with NO COMPETITION and JINXED, a paradigm is needed to accept manga in romance instead of the usual fantasy, but worth the time as NEVER KISS A STRANGER is a well written and well drawn thriller. --- Harriet Klausner
