Overview

Mac and Mary are in high school when they fall in love in the 70s. Knowing the disapproval and shame a teenage pregnancy will bring, they keep it a secret from their church and from most of their family and friends, and make the heartbreaking decision to give up their baby for adoption. Eventually they marry and begin their life together, but before long fun-loving Mac isn’t just a guy looking for a good time…he’s a meth addict.

God has a plan, however, and His timing is perfect. When Mac wakes up to the mess he’s made of their young family’s life, the couple seeks solace in their church and in recovery, beginning a miraculous journey that neither of them could have imagined.

A story about a family’s hurts and a father’s habits, transformed by God’s healing power.

“This book shows the power of God when humble men and women choose to surrender their lives to Him. The Robertsons and Owens are cut from the same cloth—the servant towel of Jesus!”– Phil Robertson, The Duck Commander from Duck Dynasty

“You may have heard them share their testimony at a seminar or on a ‘Testimonies to Go’ DVD, but you haven’t heard the whole story! I don’t think Travis Thrasher could have conjured up a fictional story any more dramatic than the profound truth of what God has done in Mac and Mary’s lives.”—John Baker, found of Celebrate Recovery

Meet the Author

Mary and Mac Owen are leaders in Celebrate Recovery and have been working together in recovery for over 25 years. They have shared their testimony 120 times in the past 4 years to over 48,000 people (in church, Celebrate Recovery seminars & meetings, rehabs, prisons, and festivals). They are sought-after speakers since sharing their testimony at Saddleback Church to 3,600 leaders from around the world.

Mary Owen was born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana. Mary’s father, the late Alton Howard, was an entrepreneur who in 1946 founded Howard Bros. Jewelers. In 1959, he opened Howard Bros. Discount Stores. In 1969, he started Howard Publishing Co. Their home was also the publishing warehouse. Mary, as a teen, answered the phone to take orders, typed the invoices & would ship cases of books daily after school. Mary transcribed her father’s writings for twenty years. In 2006, they sold Howard Publishing to Simon & Schuster.

Mac Owen was a military child who moved to Monroe, Louisiana during high school. He opened M&M Millworks (cabinet shop) in 1984 and has been growing the business ever since. In 1991, both Mac & Mary attended seminary for two years & graduated from White’s Ferry Road School of Biblical Studies. Mac was ordained as an elder and pastor at White’s Ferry Road Church in 1995 where he has served since.

They have been married since 1976 and have three children ages 38, 34 & 29 years old and eight grandchildren ranging in ages from 12 to 2 years old. In 2012 they decided to sell their house in West Monroe and have it turned into a recovery house for addicts. They moved to Colorado where two of their children’s families live.

Their testimony is on the Celebrate Recovery Testimonies To Go, Vol. 7-8 DVD. It is also highlighted in the CR books Celebrate Recovery Leader’s Guide (updated version) and Your First Step To Celebrate Recovery published January, 2013.

    Great Book!

Such a powerful message told in such a compelling way. It is such an emotional story that you will find yourself shedding tears of joy and pain right along with Mac and Mary as you read. I highly recommend this book to everyone with one warning: If you start reading you won't want to set it down, so be prepared for it.

This is a very emotional book… in the context that you are allowed to walk through the valleys and peaks with Mac and Mary Owen as they share their life story. Mr. Thrasher was able to relay their life into a truly riveting story and made you feel like you were right there with them.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially for those that have found themselves in the low point of their lives and are looking to a way to turn it around.
Thank you to Mac and Mary for sharing their story!! I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Never Let Go by Travis Thrasher.
Wow what a story. What a testimony from Mac and Mary Owens. This book can bring you to tears. The story of Mac and all his addictions and to Mary his wife who stood by him no matter what. Alcohol and drugs are pretty powerful in our world and plentiful. I give Mac credit for seeking God to get him through it. Then for him and Mary to turn around and help others that was having the same or other issues. Letting people know they are not alone. This is the second time I have heard about Celebrate Recovery. What a wonderful program. I think this is where a lot of churches fall there are no programs to help these people other then worldly ones. Bring the people to God. I highly recommend this book. Get it read it you will be bless. It deserves more then the 5 stars.
