Meet the Author

Darcy Burke wrote her first book at age 11, a happily ever after about a swan addicted to magic and the female swan who loved him, with exceedingly poor illustrations. An RWA Golden Heart® Finalist, Darcy loves all things British (except tomatoes for breakfast, or any other time of day, actually) and happy ever afters.

A native Oregonian, Darcy lives on the edge of wine country with her devoted husband, their two great kids, and three cats. In her “spare” time Darcy is a serial volunteer enrolled in a 12-step program where one learns to say “no,” but she keeps having to start over. She’s also a fair-weather runner, and her happy places are Disneyland and Labor Day weekend at the Gorge. NEVER LOVE A SCOUNDREL by Darcy Burke is an exciting Regency Historical Romance set in 1818 London. #5 in the "Secrets and Scandals" series, can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would suggest reading the others in the series first. With that said, reading this first does not take away from the previous stories. Well written with intrigue,a cliff hanger, suspense, romance, passion, secrets, and the power of love. Join Lady Lydia Prewitt and Lord Jason Lockwood on a journey of scandal, gossip that destroys lives, loneliness, and did I mention passion. Jason scarred both inside and out after a fight with is bastard half brother, labeled a lunatic, engages in debauchery,he has been shunned by the ton,but with all this said, can Lady Lydia change his life and his loneliness? Lady Lydia,is also lonely, she lives with her aunt, who has her collecting gossip, for her aunt is just plain hateful and evil....until Jason enters her life. All bets are off! A wonderful fast read! Does have a bit of a cliff-hanger. Jason's half brother, Ethan, story is next, and I can hardly wait. So many questions, I need answers to. I do wish this story had a epilogue, but atlas it does not. A very interesting storyline with engaging characters. Although, I would love to kick Margaret, Lydia's aunt a few times. If you enjoy historical romance with a twist or two, than "Never Seduce a Scoundrel" is the story for you to read. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley. Jason and Lydia seem an unlikely match. Lydia is a beautiful woman but social faux pas have left her an outcast with her peers. Jason was born into a life of privledge. He has the title, social standing and the mystery that could make him a great catch but has spent his life being treated like he was never good enough in his father's eyes. Darcy Burke has created a tale of beauty, forgiveness and opening the heart to the possibility of finding acceptance. I received an a copy of Never Love a Scoundrel in exchange for an honest review. The concept that healing a broken heart can be as simple as forgiving yourself is an inspiring theme for a love story.

Lord Jason Lockwood is a beast; disfigured, wicked, and rumored to be insane. He presides over his notorious vice parties as Master of Ceremonies. How can a man of such shocking appetites hope to reclaim his place in polite society? Lady Lydia Prewitt is beautiful, but feared, and under the cruel machinations of her evil gossip mongering Aunt. After multiple failed seasons, she no longer wishes to help her Aunt wield the reins of the gossip mill. Knowledge may be powerful, but its strength is in how you use the information. Never Love a Scoundrel was like a mash-up of fairy-tales. The beauty must tame the beast; all while outmaneuvering a vengeful Aunt and shifty half-brother. Along the way, they learn to appreciate the uniqueness of the other and together they forge their happy ending. Darcy Burke weaves a marvelous story which draws back many of the much loved characters from her previous books. It’s like meeting a group of friends, learning their back stories, and finding out how they all came to be together. This book has intrigue, an apparent suicide, a double homicide, and revenge. I can’t wait to read about Ethan Locke in Scoundrel Ever After.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This book had lots of twists and turns to me. I really wasn't sure if Lydia was going to be a character that I liked, but she turned out to be one I love because of how she changed from her aunt's little shy minion to a very bold girl. I was surprised by everything she said and did. I could not figure out her aunt's real motive for wanting to ruin the Lockwood family. I don't know what it was about Jason, but I didn't like him until closer to the end of the book. Maybe I expected him to be a little more open about things, but by the end I was starting to like him because he wanted to help his brother and let go of the past. I didn't figure out who was doing the robberies until after the last one and was shocked by who was killed.

Never Love a Scoundrel is the fifth book in Darcy Burke’s “Secrets and Scandals” series and delivers a nice mix of intrigue and passion that is guarantee to keep readers enthralled.  Her characters are wonderfully complex, with flaws and quirks that will draw you in and steal your heart. - Full review at BookTrib or RomanticReadsandSuch on wordpress.

I could not stop reading it to find out what would happen next. My heart was breaking at how heartless Lydia’s Aunt Margret was. This is a must read book, I can’t wait for the next book to come out so I can find out Ethan’s story. Jason has taken being shunned by the Ton by throwing vice parties. He Meets Lydia when they were both going to call on Lady Aldridge. Jason then showed up while Lydia was having Tea with Mrs. Lloyd-Jones. He finds that he is fascinated with Lydia because his scar does not frighten her. As the pair comes, closer, together Lydia is trying to help Jason return to polite society, they both realize that there are forces trying to draw them apart. Will love conquer all in the end?

Lord Jason Lockwood is a scarred and bitter recluse. His only pleasure is in the "vice" parties he periodically throws, where many of those in society who shun him by day, come, wearing masks, to join in the debauchery. Lady Lydia Prewitt is going on her sixth season since her debut and is forced by her nefarious aunt to ferret out items of gossip that the aunt can then, in turn, use against her victims. Her aunt is physically and mentally abusive and threatens to send her back home to her father in "the wilds" if she doesn't do her bidding. Lydia is desperate and afraid she will never find love. Jason and Lydia form an alliance to bring him back into proper society and hopefully she will be able to find a mate. It doesn't take long for the sparks to fly and the two to tumble into love. Overall, I enjoyed this story, although the ending felt a little abrupt. It could have benefitted with an epilogue to bring a more satisfactory closing.
