Overview

Was this smoke-grimed, sexy-as-hell hero hot enough to make a lady stay home nights?

Jason Cooper grinned as he plotted to convince writer C.J. Stone he was so boring, bland, and courteous, he couldn't be her magazine's Sexiest Businessman! But when a warehouse fire demanded a resourceful rescue, C.J. saw through his charade—and felt a sizzling attraction for the valiant exec whose stolen kiss left her breathless. She'd never yearned for a cozy home and family, but would Jason tempt a spirited gypsy toward a new dream?

Funny and poignant, playful and irresistibly passionate, Maureen Caudill's tale of two mismatched lovers on a collision course is utterly delicious! He'd done his best to persuade the feisty journalist he was no candidate for hottest hunk in the state, but when he turned on his charm and dared her to discover the truth, could she ignore the challenge?

"Trust me," C.J. said.

Jason stared at her a long moment, wondering if he dared take that leap of faith. Her eyes pleaded with him for something he didn't know if he could give. But then his arms settled around her. "I do. God help me, I know it's a mistake, but I do trust you."

She asked softly, "Why is it a mistake?"

His hands snuggled her even closer before he tipped her chin up to meet his gaze. "Because you don't yet trust me enough to tell me the truth."

The sudden wariness in her eyes confirmed his assertion. She was holding something back. What, he didn't know. But at this moment he wasn't even sure he cared. He took a deep breath and said, "Just one thing. Do you want me?"

C.J. smiled. This question was the easiest in the world to answer.

"Yes," she said, slipping her arms around his neck. "I want you. I want you most of all. More than anything. More than my next breath. More than--"

His mouth stopped the flow of words in a kiss.
